For those of you 6+mos out Carbonation

Recommended Posts

Have you had even a sip of something carbonated? I've heard both and I know you aren't "supposed" to but there's a lot you're not "supposed" to do but I hear of people doing it. I simply want to know if you have & did you regret it?

I've had a SMALL glass of champagne twice since surgery (7 months now). The first time was at about 4 months and I couldn't do more than 2 sips without feeling uncomfortable so I stopped. I tried it again a few days ago and was able to sip the whole glass (about 1.5 ounces of champagne) without any difficulty. It's not something I plan on making a regular habit of but it's nice to be able to participate in toasts at special occasions [emoji4]

I'm 7 months out. I've tried a sip here and there of soda. Can't stand it anymore. Be very careful for a lot of us carbonated drinks could be a trigger food for us. I'd avoid it. But that's me

Everyone's different. I'm four years out and accidentally had carbonation about two weeks ago (my husbands drink and mine got switched) and I had the same reaction I did to it at six months out... for me it's painful. Others tolerate it.

It depends on how carbonated it is. I waited until over a year post op. Fountain drinks, okay, poured out of a container and allowed to sit a little, okay. I would never drink straight from a can or a bottle. It doesn't bother me and I have had carbonation less than 5 times. It doesn't interest me. It doesn't hurt but it isn't exactly pleasant either depending on the level.

It doesn’t bother me at all. I drink carbonated Water sometimes and champagne on occasion with no issue.

I am 2.5 years out...soda doesn't bother me one bit.

However, I don't drink it nowadays because it doesn't taste that good to me since I've been sleeved. Prior to surgery, I was a Diet Pepsi addict.

It's amazing how our tastes change...

Ok this is new to me @Introversion @fruitandveggies @OutsideMatchInside @jess9395 Did all of halls taste buds change? I'm getting a feel that you can take drinks here and there but even if you were an addict before, that you have zero interest now? Can you tell me how much you find that the case? That you find you're disinterested in a drink/food??

@Aginn10

MY tastebuds have not changed at all. I also gave up soda like 2 years before surgery, and it took me a really long time to do it, so I am pretty dedicated to not drinking soda. The only time I have something carbonated is with alcohol, but I don't really drink. I gave up alcohol a few years before surgery also. I did both in an effort to lose weight and be healthy, I wasn't thinking about WLS at the time.

When I gave up sugar, alcohol and soda and still wasn't losing weight in large numbers that is one of the things that pushed me to surgery.

Taste has nothing to do with not having it, carbonation just involves things that don't benefit me or my goals. If I am going to drink alcohol I have to change my macros and calories for 2 days, it isn't worth wasting the calories on alcohol I could spend on pork chops. I think of my calories as currency, alcohol is a poor value compared to meat.

I love food, I'm a foodie. I eat lots of great and interesting stuff. I just refuse to waste calories. I was food snob before and I am more of a food snob now. I was a picky eater before, no leftovers, food has to be piping hot, my food can't touch. Tastebuds are unchanged. Lifestyle is changed.

I'm 7 out. I'll occasionally have a soda, but mostly lost my taste for it and it takes me all day to drink one. Plus, the sugar. Soda is a slippery slope to regain for people that are addicted, in my opinion.

But carbonated Water? Oh yeah. I'm on it. I alternate that and still water all day long.

An occasional beer or cider, yep.

I was never told no carbonation. Obviously it's not good for a healing sleeve, but the gas in a sip of a carbonated drink cannot physically stretch your sleeve. So really, we need to be mindful of what we're drinking calorie-wise and account for it. Empty calories add up quickly, be they juice, tea, alcohol, whatever.

I'm just over a year out. I generally avoid carbonated drinks. It's not painful, but it's just mildly uncomfortable and it seems to take up alot of room in my stomach. Some of the drinks do taste different to me since having surgery as well.

Some people lose their affinity for certain foods/drinks after surgery. Meanwhile, others still enjoy the exact same trigger treats with a vengeance after surgery, so it all depends.

Those who cannot kick their regular (sugar-sweetened) soda addictions usually regain a substantial amount of weight based on anecdotes and observations.

Hmm, well I was never a big drinker of anything outside of Water to begin with. So, naturally, I have no interest in soda. But as for sugary foods, that did change some. I still like it, but I don't feel that intense craving for it. Salty stuff though...I think it's worse. I just can't handle myself around chips and crackers! It's weird.

I am over a year out and can have carbonated things. I can't drink much, about half a soda or beer. I almost never drink anything carbonated because I don't like sodas etc, but my plan allows them after 4 months.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
