Well it looks liike a 'mixed bag' pun intended.....lol. I won't know until I'm on the other side, it is one of my favorite foods - so we will see how it goes, but I will likely not entertain eating it until I am many many months out from surgery. I intend to go the old '72 Atkins route of adding 5 carbs a week until I find what my limit is for carb intake - this is after I heal and follow all the prescribed food stages and Protein goals....etc. At least that is my plan.

If you like popcorn this stuff is amazing! 110 calories per bag, and the carbs aren't bad. Tastes just like butter movie popcorn. IMG_8659.JPG

The aforementioned picture of Himalayan Gold shows a 5-ounce bag, which contains a whopping 550 calories (approximately 5 of those 110-calorie servings).

1 ounce of this popcorn has 110 calories.

I pop my own. Then I can control what I'm putting on it or in it. I get kernels and either air pop it or use a little coconut oil and pop it on the stove.

I have been experimenting with light Marg but it turns it to mush. I also air pop, maybe I will try some coconut oil... Microwaved popcorn tastes terrible now.

I agree! I have surgery around the same time as you, and I think it will be a slide to bad habits. The RD suggested baked tortilla chips as a substitute. I thought that was a great idea. Just seasoned a bit. Maybe a bit of asiago. Sometime after 12/2 when real food can be a thing.

That said, I need to focus on high nutrient value for long health!

That's just a pic I grabbed off the Internet ( my bad), I get single serving bags from work. They are 110 calories per bag ( 1oz which is about 3 cups), and 15 grams of carbs. Not bad at all.

Without getting into a conversation about if I should or should not have it. Have any of you eaten popcorn post op? Is it a slider? Does it swell up? Does it get stuck? Have you had flavored popcorns, not caramel popcorn?

I have popcorn 1-2 days a week and it hasn't halted my weight loss...and I'm on my doctor's weight loss high end by taking off 105 pounds in five months. Now, I will say, I keep all other carbs very low.

It's a slider food in the sense that you can eat more of it, than let's say, chicken or beef, but you shouldn't be able to eat an entire bag of microwave popcorn in one sitting either.

I'm finally back at work. These are the single serving bags we have. 100 calories, 13g carbs. Plus it's a lot in the bag. I can't finish it. Love this stuff!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
