10 days out! Don't like preop diet

Recommended Posts

I'm 10 days out. I barely eat anything as it is. I don't know why I'm not thin. But I'm not into this Protein Shake mess. It's nasty. So I just don't eat much. I do eat what is on the list when I do eat tho. Anyone else not be 100% perfect preop?

Aginn, this might be a good time to try different Protein shakes/powders, if that is allowed in your program.

I've never met a person who was "perfect" preop. I know I wasn't. Do the best you can & use the advice to try different shakes.

If you don't eat anything as you claim, it's possible you're still overweight because your body is in starvation mode & slowing down your metabolism. It seems counter to lose weight by eating more, but it may help.

Good luck.

Thank you. I was 240 the day I went in. I'm 230 now. Wearing clothes I've not worn in years. I rarely eat - before my preop diet I hadn't eaten in days. And the weight is falling off. My BMI is under 35 now even. So I'm getting my Protein in but I can't do those nasty shakes. I guess I look at it as if weight is falling off and I've not even had the surgery yet and I'm not hungry but get my protein in then I should be fine. If for some reason he doesn't think the surgery/liver will work then I'll take that as a sign since I've been debating this back and forth. I'm not certain it's the right thing. I'm about 20 lbs away from being happy with my weight with my overall build.

No one knows what you should do but you, but there is no shame or harm in asking your surgeon to postpone things for a few months while you work on the last 20#s, right?

That would be me. Don't like anything. Like you, I just barely eat but try to drink my Water. I get very light headed at times. It was very hard. Surgery tomorrow. Lap band converting to sleeve, with less than perfect pre-op[emoji19]

Yay someone who makes me feel better lol I did ask nutrition today if it was ok if I didn't necessarily eat what they say I had to every day pre-op but not eat something NOT allowed and was told yes so I'm thankful for that! Good luck tomorrow ! Mine is a week from Thursday so I'll be eager to hear how you feel etc.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
