my Primary mentioned at my last visit that i might want to do it INSTEAD of surgery. she thinks thats why i am over weight. my endocrinologist and surgeon disagree with her. my surgeon is only requiring an EKG and bloodworm for clearance but i am afraid my PCP will not hold me up =(

At your last visit, did she say you had too? If Not, then keep it moving. If she holds you up based on that then you'll see pulmonary. What can you do about it really? I didn't want to have to be held up but if I wanted the surgery, I had to have a sleep study and then use the machine for a month. As soon as I did that though, I was approved by insurance in 2 days and scheduled for surgery in 3 weeks.

I HAD to be screened, got a CPAP machine and use it religiously and brought it to the hospital. No on required me to wear it for a month pre surgery, they just asked me to commit to it, and I easily did as quality sleep is imperative to healing.

You could also call back pulmonology and ask for an at home sleep study.

I mean sleep Apnea could surely make you gain weight, but not be responsible for you being over 130+ pounds overweight. Not really sure why a PCP would think that unless theyre vehemently against WLS for some reason.

Regardless if you do have sleep apnea you would feel much better using CPAP for a few days. If insurance will cover a sleep study it wouldnt be a bad idea to get checked out.

I wouldnt want it to hold up my surgery but I would be curious

Yeah sleep apnea is more often a result of obesity than a cause is obesity.

No she didn't say i needed to. And my surgeon doesn't require it he just n needs the EKG done too i guess i'll see what happens i have an appointment for the ekg with my primary. i guess if she's not ok with me not getting the sleep study done she won't give me a letter of medical clearance.

Yup. The most uncomfortable night's sleep ever. If my doctor hadn't given me a dose of ambien I don't think I would have ever gotten to sleep. I wasn't surprised when they woke me the next morning and informed me that I did in fact have sleep apnea. I had to use a CPAP for 2 weeks for clearance from the doctor. To be honest I don't really use it now. The air pressure is to high, which I guess means that the weight loss is helping. :)

I had to have a sleep study and it turned out I had severe sleep apnea. I feel so much better since I started using my cpap machine. I have to bring it to the hospital but no requirement for how long I have to use it. The only requirement was for the sleep study,

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
