Never not hungry.

Recommended Posts

I keep seeing everyone's posts about not being hungry or not being able to eat and I never had that! I mean for the first 2 weeks, maybe. After that I've been hungry and I've been hungry since! How has everyone been handling this?? I'm eating no carbs, only Protein, and small portions, but I never feel satisfied!

Help!

I have no idea about not eating any carbs - but I felt the same way. I was told by my friend that had this surgery, oh your won't be hungry and forget to eat. I said to him this is not easy - this has been very mentally rough. My only vice was food and now I have none. I was always fixated on food. My surgery was just over 4 months ago. I am losing weight, but my mind keeps saying what are you going to eat. I think it is harder right now because I am in between jobs with lots of time on my hands. When I have a Protein Shake, that it keeps me full for a long time. I am working a lot on my psychological side still wanting that comfort food. I have to remind myself all the time I had surgery - especially when I walk into the kitchen and there is food everywhere. If someone told you that this was an easy journey - they must have a few other vices they are now focusing on. I have found this to be a roller coaster in my mind. I am hoping once I am working again I won't be so focused on the next small meal.

I think about food a lot too. Especially when I am at work. When I'm home I can get busy with things that interest me more. Not sure why work is so hard but it is! I feel like I just focus on food all the time! I'm doing pretty low carb- under 80 per day and calories are averaging around 600-700 I think I'm almost 12 weeks out. I need to count it up again. Losing weight which is what keeps me motivated. It to graze constantly. No, this is not easy. Only people who have no idea what it's really like will say this is the easy way out . For me it was the only way out of obesity, but it's definitely not easy.
I will say in. It always hungry physically , but sometimes I am very hungry. And I do think about eating something decadent, but thankfully I don't do it. I have fallen a couple of times and ate a mcflurry once and a krispy cream once. Unfortunately sugar doesn't bother me at all. It has to be will power that keeps me from it.

I was hungry right away as well. It even wakes me up out of my sleep. I try to drink some Water thinking maybe Im thirsty, but nope, its definitely hunger pangs. And intense ones too. Thank goodness the water does help, but I was surprised. I heard someone else suggest that perhaps its stomach acid, but either way, it feels just like what I've always felt. Difference is, when I d eat or drink, the sensation goes way pretty quickly and of course I'm full.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
