PostOp Facial Skin Rashes & Hair Growth

Recommended Posts

I am almost 4 months post-op Gastric Sleeve and during last month I noticed a small amount of facial hair developing on the left side of my chin. This month, it is very obvious and the hairs are growing on top of what now appears to be a rash. The rash is red, itchy, it burns and is spreading to the right side of my chin. I use Nair with Almond Oil for facial hair and it will remove the hair but it grows back within the beginning of the next week. I remember using Biotin before my surgery and I did grow upper lip facial hair so I believe that the Biotin is causing this unwanted facial Hair growth and possibly the rash as well but I'm not sure. It's so irritating that I walk around scratching my chin more than my son's and my husband scratches their beards. I wonder if their are Bariatric Vitamins without Biotin and I would like to know if the Biotin is necessary to consume at all for Gastric surgery patients? Does anyone know what can be done or am I the only "bearded lady" here?🤔

If you think Biotin is causing unwanted Hair growth, stop taking it. I never took it. Good luck!

Please don't take this the wrong way but have you been to a dermatologist? To me it sounds hormonal. I had to have a hysterectomy a couple years ago and was thrown into adult acne. I break out around the jaw bone area. My dermatologist told me that is the area where you break out when it is hormone related & the hair could be related to a high level of hormones. I think you should make an appointment with your doctor to get your levels checked. Also, the bumps I got hurt and itched.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
