New Here and Struggling

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I am new here. I have a follow up with my surgeon on 9/21 and he said if all my tests were good and I had lost 5-10% of my weight we could be looking at surgery in October or November. I think I am down 2 lbs and will need to drop 15 more! I am having a hard time losing weight. I dieted for so many years and always managed to lose some weight but always gained it back. I quit drinking 3 years ago and since then have gained 60 lbs and have not been able to get much off. I am 340 now and my highest was 350. Work is super stressful and my best coping skill is exercise but my back and neck hurt and my asthma is out of control at this weight.

I am looking for some cheerleading and any support/tips from anyone!

Thanks!

Hi abj85 Glad your here. I'm going to give you some advise on how to lose some weight before your next appt. First- Don't beat yourself up! It didn't take a month or a week to get to where your at, and its going to take some time to change your habits. BUT you CAN DO IT!! So here's some tips my team has taught me...

First- Eat 3-4 times a day.
Breakfast- eat no later than 30 minutes after you wake. I make my own Protein Shakes with stevia and almond milk. I use Bariatric Advantage. chocolate, vanilla and banana are my favorites.

For lunch I choose this as my main meal. Try to stay under 50 grams of carbs (For the whole day) I eat cottage cheese, eggs, salmon, cod, chicken. Mediterranean type meals are good. Feta cheese, nuts, etc.

For dinner I have another shake.< br>
I have a snack like

Yogurt, apples with Peanut Butter, grapes

Don't starve yourself, otherwise your body goes into starvation mode and you wont lose. With the shakes I go to this website www.webstaurantstore.com believe its called. I order sugar free coffee syrups for a good price and make it fun!! I have eggnog shakes, Chai tea flavored shakes, and my latest is butter rum shake! But you can also do unsweetened coconut milk with chocolate and have a mounds shake. I always at two packets of all natural stevia sweetener because I like mine sweet. Become a mixologist! Any help I can give you, dont hesitate to message me. Good luck you can do it!

Hi, I feel your pain. I was in the same situation not too long ago. The quickest way to shed weight for a specific occasion like yours is low carb. PERIOD! For me meal prepping is key. I would cook Breakfast, eggs and turkey sausage and dinner chicken breasts and a veggie for the week. Keep it simple. You don't need lots of sides. For lunch I love spinach strawberry salad and cottage cheese. Yes it may get redundant eating the same thing but it gets the job done quickly. I had to do this for a weigh in as well.

Hang in there and be kind to yourself. It took me a good three months or so before I started losing weight. Low carb is a must! You'll figure out what works best for you.

Everybody is so different. The lightbulb came on for me after I read a book called Never Binge AGain. It really helped me get my eating under control.

I did two shakes a day and broth and sugar free Jello for 16 days before surgery and lost 19 lbs. The hospital I had it done at required my BMI to be below 60 and at 356 lbs (I'm only 5'3") so I needed to lose about 15lbs

Hard, but not impossible.

Have faith in yourself. You can do it!!! Check in from time to time 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

shakes helped me a LOT in losing weight pre-op. I usually replaced one meal a day with a shake...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
