Vitamis D level too low

Recommended Posts

I was just notified that my Vitamin D level is too low. I have to take Vitamin D for six weeks and then test again. Does anyone know if a low vitamin D level will cause my surgery to be pushed back? I'm paying each month for my Cobra insurance so each month that it's delayed that's another month I have to pay. Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

Of course everything is up to your doc/insurance, but no I don't think it should be an issue. My Vitamin D was 12 --- it's supposed to be 30 (!!!!) and they still did the operation, no issue. I am now up to normal level, woot! You should be fine, though you should ask them to put you on an Rx dose of D (50,000 IU per week).

Yea I'm on 50,000 three times a week because my level is at 11. I'm glad .that it may not be a problem. Thanks

Wow, that should do the trick! Yeah, it wasn't an issue for me, so hopefully won't be for you. Good luck!

Hey guys, I'm on the highest IU's there is so they had to do the infusions. They don't know why I'm so low but I'm critically low on Iron 2

According to the internet:

If you shun the sun, suffer from milk allergies, or adhere to a strict vegan diet, you may be at risk for Vitamin D deficiency. Known as the sunshine vitamin, vitamin D is produced by the body in response to skin being exposed to sunlight. It is also occurs naturally in a few foods -- including some fish, fish liver oils, and egg yolks -- and in fortified dairy and grain products.

Vitamin D is essential for strong bones, because it helps the body use Calcium from the diet. Traditionally, vitamin D deficiency has been associated with rickets, a disease in which the bone tissue doesn't properly mineralize, leading to soft bones and skeletal deformities. But increasingly, research is revealing the importance of vitamin D in protecting against a host of health problems.

I have had a Vit D deficiency for years pre surgery - still take 10000 IUs a day - While I was not dangerously low, I'm always at the very low end of normal and it didn't affect my surgery.

It is virtually unimaginable for surgery to be canceled because of low Vitamin D levels.

That said 6 weeks is plenty of time to get it back up, unless you have a health problem causing it to be critically low (which is a whole different story because the Vitamin D isnt the problem this ailment is)

Not to mention Vitamin D is a fat soluable vitamin, so you can just take a crap ton of it and your body will absorb it over time.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
