All that travel...

So, I had my surgery on Tuesday with surgeons in Fort Collins, attending the medical weight loss classes in Fort Collins, having the surgery at Poudre Valley Hospital in Fort Collins and I'll be returning to Fort Collins to do my follow-up appointment on September 11th. Normally, I wouldn't be ticked about that... but the same system that manages Poudre Valley Hospital and my surgeon's practice (University of Colorado Health or UCHealth) just opened Long's Peak Hospital in the town I live in, Longmont. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem. Longmont is growing so naturally, it may make sense for us to have a second hospital, especially with it being so close to communities in Weld County. Also, considering how yuppie Longmont is starting to become, it's natural that we're going to be getting one of those "birthing centres" too.

... If not for the fact that they offer Bariatric Surgery too. Now, I'm kinda pissed off that I couldn't have my surgery done here in town. Oh well, at least it got done.

Do me a favor. When you are 8 weeks post-op, buy some vanilla pepsi. Set it out so it goes flat, then taste it. I'll bet $20 that you'll be willing to kill a bus full of nuns to NOT have to drink that stuff ever again!!!

Oh, and congrats on your surgery! Good luck!

It's a joke I made to a friend when I was on a pre-op liquid diet.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
