8/21 sleeve, PMS gain? Anyone else???

Recommended Posts

I have lost 19.5lbs since my liquid diet on the 11th and today I am up two lbs. I have not cheated, hit my Water and Protein goals

everyday and get a small walk in as well. I'm hoping someone else has had a gain during PMS or their period? Just a bit bummed being one week

out of surgery.

This always happens to me. My first month i gained about 3 lbs and held it until my last day and then dropped about 6 lbs in one day. Now that i'm further out i gain 2 lbs at the beginning then continue to drop a lbs a day during.

Every month, like clockwork - 3-4 pounds. It falls off after my cycle.

I gain anywhere from 3 to 7 pounds in Fluid weight during the monthly cycle, which disappears about a week after the first day of my period.

I only weigh myself once a month, about a week after my period ends. Weighing in more often isn't going to make the scale's number move faster, but it does create anxiety for some of us.

Here's a great posting regarding weights and the scale:

Quote

Just a periodic reminder that scales measure the gravitational pull of the earth at a given moment in time - nothing else.

Scales don't measure the presence or absence of health.

Scales don't measure happiness.

Scales don't measure success.

And scales don't measure effort.

Too many people believe scales measure things other than gravity, and for some, those beliefs lead them to abandon their best efforts.

If you're ever curious about how you're doing, consider the fact that the answer to that question has to do with the doing.

Are you cooking more frequently? Minimizing your liquid calories? Decreasing your restaurant reliance? Not drinking to excess? Cultivating sleep? Exercising as much and as often as you can reasonably enjoy? Keeping a food diary of some sort?

The answer to those questions (and of course that list isn't exhaustive, nor will all questions apply to all people) are how you're doing.

Please don't confuse what you weigh with how you're doing. Though there's often overlap, they're definitely not one in the same.

Thank you, all 3 of you, I feel much better. It is a week and two days since surgery and a gain was going to make me cry, that and stupid PMS, sigh.

I was sleeved last November. I just now, last month actually, started my period for the first time. I had a bit of weight gain, but it has since went back down. The period is here again this month, and it's much worse than last month, and I gained a bit back, but I am sure it will go back down as soon as this part is over.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
