I love sparkling Water. Out of all the things that need to change to be successful this will be the hardest for me.

Omg me too - I am going to miss my club soda and sparkling Water. I am also going to miss chugging water. It will be worth it in the end......hopefully!

You will probably be able to chug Water again by year one. I can chug water basically at the same rate as pre-op at 2 years.

You can probably have carbonation down the road if it doesn't bother you. A sleeve isn't a pouch. I have carbonation every once in a while, it doesn't bother me, but it isn't something I seek out or purchase on a regular basis.

Good to know... I'm willing to let it all go for better health but knowing there is possibility of a cold drink of refreshing crisp bubble Water in my future makes me oh so happy!

I am addicted to carbonation and slowly trying to get myself off of it. I found myself wondering if you take the carbonation out of diet Mt. Dew, will I be able to handle it eventually? But that probably is not a good thought since it will be hard enough to even get regular Water intake down for a while. I love to chug water. I find myself trying so so so hard to remember to sip my water!

I can already nearly chug and I'm like 12 days post op. Is it a mental thing? I have no pain so I don't know. I'm definitely planning on having diet soda again though, maybe at like 6 months out.

I'm almost 3 years post-op and can't chug anything. I can take regular sized sips of Water, 2-3 in a row at most. No baby sips, but also no chugging like before surgery.

As for carbonation, I can do something that is *lightly* carbonated once in a while. A sugar free Red Bull left out for a few minutes, or a few sips of a very, very dark beer (I don't really care for beer anyway, but I have tried the carbonation factor, just to see...lol). Champagne, sparkling water like la croix, any kind of soda...kills. Blahhhh. So much pressure in my sleeve!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
