Pre Op Requirements

Recommended Posts

Hi, I've been seeing my nutritionist to meet my insurance requirements. I have found it to be benificial, but I am 6 month in and I have been playing with the same 5 pounds, I am making lifestyle changes but I am still as frustrated as before. I my BMI is at 40, I'm borderline insulin resistant, so I can't loose too much weight before surgery or insurance won't cover it. It took me so long to decide on banding, and it just seems like such a long depressing road until its finally time for surgery. I am just so tired of being this way. BTW, back in high school I was voted runner up for best body -----what a joke now!!

Thanks for any uplifting support!

Alyssa

It Took Me Nearly 7 Months To Get Qualified With Insurance. It Did Give Me Plenty Of Time To Really Realize I Needed To Do This. Tommorrow I Start My Two Weeks Of liquid Only And Then Will Be Banded On The 30th. Hang In There Cause When It Does Come Around You Will Be Double Ready To Get It Done And Start To Meet Your Goals.

Since muscle weighs more than fat, exercising may not take a lot of pounds off but will be beneficial to you. I don't blame you for not wanting to get below 40 BMI. Most insurance companies require comorbidities if you get below that.

As for the best body in high school, remember how much you have matured as a woman. I am sure that you are a good person and that is much more important than what you look like. Remember, you will be HOT again! Being overweight is not an easy life and I am sure that by traveling down this road in life, you have developed empathy for others in the same situation and in other sad circumstances. It has made you a better and STRONGER person. In a few months, you will be a sexy lady again and better for having the life experience you have had. Goodluck.

When I graduated high school back in 1970 I weighed a whooping 99lbs! OMG - what happened! My BMI is 40 and I have 100lbs to loose. I remember my mom taking me to the doctor because I was so thin. He said don't worry she will gradually put on some weight....HELLO!!!!! It's here and then some! My appt. with surgeon "Band Class" is next Wed. Oct 8th, having it done through the military base with Tricare Prime......

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
