I have wanted to get sleeved since early 2013.

I had a series of delays, and actually started the journey early this year.

Here we are, everything is done.

All the hoops have been jumped through and insurance has approved me.

Surgery is 3 days away and I am scared to death.

I am getting cold feet and second guessing myself.

Mostly out of fear.

you should be a bit nervous and excited. You are about to go through something that will change your life, but the change will be for the better. Stay focused on your goals, everyone gets nervous.

I understand completely. I felt exactly the same as you. Even thinking I can still lose the weight with out surgery. But I'm glad I went through with it. Tomorrow will be a month since surgery. What helped me was having my dad there in the preop room, and just shooting the breeze. Took my mind off the needles and fear. Just my experience. Hang in there and keep thinking about the results. It makes it so worthwhile.

Yeah, I know I have to do it.
I have to get healthy for myself and my wife and kids.
In addition to all the discomfort of being so big, I have several health issues that need to be addressed.
I just have to be strong.

I'm right there with you. I saw my primary doctor 1 week after surgery and he took me off one of the blood pressure meds and a diabetes med. It feels great when you start seeing results and that motivates you even more! Even though its only been 4 weeks tomorrow, I already feel a difference in my knees and feet.

Hang in there buddy you'll do fine. Remember too, that these doctors do so many of these surgeries it's almost routine.

@Walter.Sobchak Hang in there. 10 months out and still the best decision I have ever made. It's scary, but I cannot explain with words how much more rewarding life is on this side of surgery.

I went to seminars with my husband 20 years. Everything seemed too invasive and scary until the right surgeon at a sleeve seminar. Still he was to sold. I discovered with three comorbidities I qualified and I signed up. He followed me into it. He was so afraid because of his severe diabetes, and heart problems. Overweight all his life, I watched him starve himself on Optifast shakes for 2 one year periods, lose 100 lbs, and always gain it back. Now for FOUR years he has kept off the 100 lbs, and no more Rescue calls in the middle of the night. At 70 years old now, kayaking, fishing, boating, he would tell you it is the best thing he ever did for his health! We would both do it again in a heartbeat!

Thank you Joann, it is nice to hear from you.
Now that it is so real, I am scared.
I have to do it.
I have to get healthy.
My wife and kids need me.
My kids are still young, 5 and 3
I can turn it around now and have years of fun with them.

Thank you all for your kind words and encouragement.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
