How are people losing 10lbs/month?!

Recommended Posts

joann454, what is your diet like a day? and your exercise routine?

i'm just not losing anything since like 2 weeks post surgery and so it's been minimum 3 weeks with no weight loss.

It just really sucks...

I don't blame you for being frustrated at all. I'm eating low carb and around 1000 calories a day. It really varies but I try not to consume more than 20-30 carbs. My weight loss feels slow compared to some but I'm very pleased so far. I hope your stall breaks soon. I have had many in just three months.

Oops, edited to add that I'm just walking and lifting weights (neither vigorously either)

Put away the scale, and pull out the tape measure. Measure yourself once a week or every-other week. You may be one that tends to lose inches while retaining Fluid (so you are getting thinner without dropping weight).

Try to get your calories between 800 and 1000, and trust the process. Working out isn't necessary this early, but walking can be helpful.

It's early, just give it time...

Keep a good and Water journal. Measure your food, don't guess. I was worried about the calories and my RD told me to focus on the Protein first. I am 5 weeks post sleeve and am struggling to get in all the protein I need due to the restriction but am eating around 500 calories a day.so far I am down 27 pounds. It is individual. I am journaling my non weight victories. I am wearing my wedding band for the first time in 10 years.

I'm also having the same issue! I was super pleased at my 1-month appointment to find that I had lost 15lbs then found out that is on the lower end of things. I have PCOS and losing weight has never been easy but I keep hearing about the honeymoon phase and it's really messing with my head. My first stall was the 3rd week of post-op, dropped about 6 more lbs, then the scale has frozen. I am also struggling to make my Protein and Water goals and I'm thinking that's part of the issue...

I'll follow your story and check in to see how you're doing. Hopefully we'll get out of this stall soon. :)

Just hang in there and find another hobby besides 'scale hopping', trying to add some humor here!

Buy a flexible tape measure at a fabric store like JoAnn's or anywhere they sell little sewing supplies. Make a chart for your measurements.

Don't worry about working out until you get the Protein goals and Water goals in line - that is more critical right now. Just do some walking, use audible books on your phone that makes walking less boring.

Good luck.

I want to know who these people are. If I'd had that expectation post op I would have been so incredibly frustrated the whole time.

The idea to measure (and also take pictures, visualization helps) is a good one. Many times during my loss phase I stalled but lost sizes.

I lost, on average, 6 pounds a month. I only had one double digit month - the first one. Towards the end there were a lot of 2 and 3 pound months. When I lost baby weight and went under goal later, it took 14 months to lose 26 pounds. Slow loss is still loss. Keeping it off is what matters.

You're off to a great start. There are other ways to measure success than the scale. New habits, exercise, fitting in New clothes, health changes - don't be a slave to the scale.

Good luck.

Cheri

@travelergirl @MowryRocks you guys are doing amazing!!! what does your meal plan look like a day usually?

I am 10 months out and I am an exercise beast at this point. I work out for an hour a day, 6 days a week and M-F, I walk a mile on break at work. On my "rest" day , I am generally still active. I gat anywhere from 12K-24K steps a day.

I'm working on bumping up my calories because I am in one helluva stall. I eat about 1200-1400 calories per day

Post workout - Premier Protein shake

Breakfast 1/2 cottage cheese

Morning snack P3 Turkey, Ham, and Cheddar

lunch 2-4 oz of meat with veggies and/or a low carb snack

Snack - String Cheese

dinner 2-4oz of meat with veggies and a low carb starch.

That sums up about everyday in my world.

@Berry78 thanks for the comment! Makes me feel better! People tell me I look thinner. I think I'm slimming down a little...just frustrating when the weight doesn't reflect it. I guess I'll just be patient and also accept the fact that my weight loss will be a slow one.

@nativenm congrats on your success! that's so exciting! I need to focus on my Protein too.

@coyote I have PCOS too. Maybe that's playing a part in it but I also know that my Water and protein are not where they need to be. We got this though. Slowly but surely. I'll follow up with you too!

@Bodhi Tree i'll have to read it.

For breakfast I usually do a Premier Protein shake.< br>For a snack I'll do some cheese and a two or three slices of fruit.< br>For lunch I alternate between chicken breast and tuna. I'll then so a small amount of veggies.
For a snack I usually do some nuts.
For dinner I will do chicken breast, tuna, or some ground beef and a small amount of veggies.
Protein is 2.5 to 3 oz. Veggies 1 to 2 oz.

@clk Thanks for the comment. Honestly, I'm a little over a month out and I havent dropped weight. I would die of happiness if I lost 6 lbs a month...I Just feel defeated. I don't even want to take progress pics because i'm not happy with how I look. I have scars all over my body and it just makes me sad. I gotta work on everything lol

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
