TerriDoodle 6 Posted October 14, 2007 It's not just this 'diet', but every one I've ever been on it seems like I hit a major plateau and the losses slow way down at 6 months! May of those in my April 07 group are having stalling issues right about now. Any bright ideas on what causes it? The best I can think of is the body simply adapting to lower calories...even though I try to mix mine up a bit going higher and lower from time to time. Do you notice this same trend? Oregondaisy 2,021 Posted October 14, 2007 I hit a two month plateau about that time. It's very frustrating. I ended up doing liquids only for a week to break it.

Newbeginnings 0 Posted October 14, 2007 hi everyone, I need help please. I have been working towards my lapband surgery and now after passing all the test and jumping though hoops, I was all set to get my surgery date when my dr. found I have a 5 cm hiatal hernia and now is telling me my only option is a open roux-en-y gastric bypass instead of the lapband. I am crushed. I do not want to get a gastric bypass especially an open one. Has anyone out there had a 5 cm hiatal hernia and still had the surgery and the hernia fixed at the same time? I wanted this so bad. I finally had something I have not had for a while...... HOPE

mrspruett 0 Posted October 15, 2007 TerriDoodle- I think a plateau at 6 mos is common. I just had a loss of 2 pounds recently after plateauing for a few weeks. There is a plateau busting diet posted on here somewhere too. I haven't tried it but it may be worth a look.

TerriDoodle 6 Posted October 15, 2007 That's simply a low-carb diet. Been there, done that! Yeah, I'll lose weight doing it, but I'll gain it right back when I go back to eating normal foods. I'm not really asking HOW to bust a plateau...I'm asking if anyone knows why it happens....religiously....at 6 months!?

utep99 0 Posted October 15, 2007 HAD 7 OF THOSE HERNIAS WHEN i GOT MY LAP BAND. tHE DOCTOR ALSO ADVISED ME TO GET THE BY-PASS. i STUCK TO MY GUNS AND GOT THE LAP-BAND. IT TOOK A LONG RECOVERY 6 WEEKS BUT i AM DOING OKAY NOW. IF YOU GET THE LAP BAND LIFT NOTHING AND DO NOT STRAIN YOU WILL BE OKAY. SORRY FOR THE CAPS BUT THESE DOCTORS WHO WANT TO DO ONLY BYPASS UPSET ME. THE ONLY RISK WILL BE THAT THE HERNIA CAN RETURN IF YOUR WEIGHT LOSS IS SLOW. GOOD LUCK! Newbeginnings 0 Posted October 15, 2007 thanks for posting about your hiatal hernia. It gives me hope that you were able to get yours. How long ago was it and were you in more pain because they fixed your 5 hernia's . Do you know how big your's were? I will stick to my guns about no bypass. I think I will tell him if he won't do it I will transfer my records to another hospital and they will do it. Maybe if he see's how stubborn I am, he will change his mind. How come you had a 6 week recovery period? Is this because of the lifting thing? Do you have any acid reflux or problems now that the hernia is fixed? Ps. sorry I posted my problems her but I didnt know how to start a new link. Can someone help me with this?

mrspruett 0 Posted October 15, 2007 <p>newbeginnings-as soon as you get into the area you want to start a thread in, you should see a blue box right above the forum called "new thread". Click on that and you should be good to go. Hope this helps. It is OK to post anywhere that you want, I was just afraid you wouldn't get as many responses if it was within another thread.***hugs***

maryrose 2 Posted October 15, 2007 Terri, Gosh I could have written your post. I am right were you are. I had my surgery 4/7. This is the thing I am noticing at this "six" month mark. I went for my 6 mo. check up last Fri. I am down 48 lbs., but I lost about 15 of those lbs. before my surgery. They told me I am "all set" for six months, but not to let six months go by without calling them. Hmmm.... I feel that I need better follow-up than that. This is a crucial time for us. I know it is up to us at this point and we have the band, knowledge, etc., but I feel I really need those weigh-ins to keep me in line and on target. I try to go to the liquid Protein stage for a few days when I feel my weight loss stall.
