Pain above incision??

Recommended Posts

I am currently 13 days post op RNY... my incision pain was practically gone a few days ago... but yesterday and today it's back! Today I noticed, because I actually looked at my biggest incision, the the pain is coming from internally, about 1-2 inches above that incision. Has anyone else experienced this? Is this normal? How long did your pain last?? I have my 2 week follow up coming up but wanted to ask for other peoples experiences.

My pain was around for less than a week. About six days. It might be gone again by tomorrow. Healing varies from person to person. I heal fast so it didn't take long for my pain to go away and finally stand up straight again. I heard somewhere that the incision pain usually lasts around two weeks.

But again it varies from person to person and depends on the many factors out there. It's normal to have pain there but your doctor would know for sure.

Is the pain on your right side? I am just 3 days post op and my pain in that spot is definitely the worst. I was told that the incision goes deeper in that spot... that the camera is inserted there and lots of instruments go in and out at that site so it is expected that it would be more painful and take a little longer to heal. Hope that helps.

I did experience the exact same thing. I could even feel a little lump. I was told, it was a collection on blood which is common post op. In time it will subside. What i did what exchange hot and cold packs on that area. Within a week or so, the pain and lump went away.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
