Question for >1 year sleevers!

Recommended Posts

It depends on the fixings. I have done a really good job of removing bread from most of my meals. I just had a company BBQ at my new job and I had a hot dog with no bun, and a spoonful of Mexican dip. Looking around at everybody else's plate was a real eye opener. I felt awkward but nobody said anything.

You could eat half of a sandwich or take the top off. Honestly, there are alot of weird diets out there now, you can tell people you are trying to cut carbs.

I don't think the sleeve gets bigger, it is just the swelling goes down and as it is fully healed we can eat more.

Toasted bread goes down easier. Around a year I could sometimes eat a sandwich. At 7 years I can eat one, but it's still my entire meal.

I'd say the sleeve, for me, reached it's full capacity at a year. At around 3-4 years out I was able to tolerate larger portions of Pasta and grains, that's the only change. I'm 7 years out.

Four years out and I can't and wouldn't want to.

Why would that affect social situations? No one really cares what I eat or don't eat in social situations, we are being social! Lots of options on most menus other than a sandwich!

I know what you're trying to say.

I'm trying to ask if we will ever be back to normal of atleast being able to eat one sandwich while sometime ?

I'm just challenging your view of "normal." We are a nation of obese people who equate food with everything from the social to the emotional. Most adults who maintain a normal weight eat differently.

Some of us will be able to eat a whole sandwich once in a while. At four years out I'm not one of them and I'm glad. No one can predict whether you will be one or not.

Oh wow okay ! Thanks for your response! We do have emotions with food.. that's gonna be hardest to break !

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
