Feeling of indigestion 5 no the post op rny please help if you can

Recommended Posts

Hi there...a week shy of 5 months post op RNY....down almost 80lbs.

I will admit I am not taking my Vitamins, Water or Protein like I should. I know...what a dumb f**k I am. I know. But I have started to take my liquid vitamins and my protein but did bad with water this week leading me to be SO constipated from Monday to today. All in all everything cleared out and I thought I was okay but the last couple of days I've been feeli my a sort of nauseas feeling and almost like indigestion but not fully since RNY...almost like a thick grease feeling in my throat. This is after I made and had about 3 oz of home made pulled pork.

Since I am losing regularly I've been eating a Keto inspired diet (including steak and bacon) am I wrong for this?

I am going to make an appointment with my doctor but I'm leaving for Disney in 1 week...shoukd I just take the rest of the proposed prescription? Is it all lack of water?

Please help, I'm nervous and d ont really want to see my doctor and have him tell me I'm failing

Thank you

I think getting the Vitamins and Water under control longterm is extremely important. Protein you can get from food (and you mention eating lots of meat, so thats a good protein source). But long term malnutrition and anemia are serious concerns.

Is it possible youre overeating and stretching the pouch ? Maybe more frequent smaller meals or that kind of thing could help. Eitherway its probably a good idea to see your surgeon, afterall theyre there to help you

Thank you both for responding with great points!@sleevedreamer, yesterday I came upon the concept of too much fat and I believe this has a lot to do with it (bacon, pulled pork etc) has this happened to you personally? I will heed both of these advices and plan on making a Dr. Appt after I get back from Disney

yes.

Okay, do you have time to elaborate? I've seen that many people go Keto here post op and my surgeon never spoke against it. Not questioning you but if you have some feed back i want it.

High fat diets can cause distress for RNY patients (i.e. Dumping). You may want to try eating more lean Proteins and cutting back on the high fat meats (bacon, pulled pork, etc). I really didn't start eating those until I was 8 months out and only in small amounts. Also, letting your stomach go totally empty can cause some distress I've found. My NUT has her patients eating 5 mini-meals a day consisting of 3-4 oz Protein, a multigrain or fruit serving (2 each daily, not eaten at the same meal) and green veggies. Also 3 good fats daily (1oz nuts, olive oil, avocado, etc) And drink your Water or other non-calorie/non-caffeine drink - 64oz a day. Water is so important to keeping Constipation at bay.

I eat occasional piece of uncured Petersons bacon. But a lot of it or daily would be too much fat IMO. Too much fat causes distress on your pouch, but you still need good fats for balance like buts, olive oil, and avocado is q great healthy fat. You need to introduce healthy Protein into your diet while you get back on track. I eat a lot of cheese and turkey deli meat with avocado. I eat a lot of cottage cheese from Trader Joe's (it is the creamiest I have found and I live it). It won't take you long to get back on track. Just do it! You will get used to the healthy foods quickly. GOod luck!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
