I need some help. Diet and pain

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am 1 week post op tomorrow and I will be switching to puréed foods... my stage two of my diet. I know everyone's is different. I have been doing Protein Shakes and Clear Liquids. This stage is pudding, strained cream Soups, apple sauce, yogurt.

First, what type of yogurt did you guys use? Very confused about how to make it palatable. I hate yogurt, especially plain but I want to try new things.

Also, and unrelated, I am having pain at times during sleep and during the day in the top middle of my stomach almost like a bubble, lasts like 5 seconds and goes away. I am a mom so I am moving a lot ..

Thanks in advance.

I love yogurt so it wasn't a problem for me. But I was told to eat Oikos Triple Zero greek yogurt, no fat, no artificial sweeteners, no sugar. The vanilla is very yummy. I felt like I was eating ice cream. :) You can also add a spoonful of PB2, which is powdered Peanut Butter without the fat. That pain you're feeling is most likely gas. Walking will help. Try not to take anything for it. I didn't take anything and was ok after walking. But ask your surgeon or nutritionist if you need help with it. I didn't have the gas pains after a few weeks.

Thank you so much. After I read your post I saw a commercial for the yogurt. I'm going to get it tomorrow. Thanks for the feedback around the pain... I get nervous about that stuff. [emoji173]️[emoji173]️

You will consume so little like 1/4 to 1/2 cup you really can have any Soup blended you like. I had a butternut squash soup . It was Devine. I had some soupy mashed potatoes with plain yogurt. Was like sour cream but more Protein. It too was Devine. Just get used to something a little thicker than a shake. Eating this way is not so much for nutrition but healing, I couldn't tolerate purée until beginning of third week. Every one is different. It is always good to get ideas here. I did two full weeks post op on clear liquid. Then third week shakes and Soups. I heated my chocolate Protein Shake added some milk to have a hot cocoa. Good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
