Can anyone share info on the weight loss results achieved after endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty? Also, did you experience any pain after the procedure? Please talk us through what the procedure was like for you and what your weight loss journey has been like since the procedure.

And, for those who shared that their insurance paid for the procedure, which insurance provider covers ESG and how long did insurance approval take? Thank you.

Hi, I have my procedure on May 21st so it is a few more weeks yet before I even go under the knife. But I have been going through all the insurance stuff and I can give you an idea of what that is like. I have been going to the weight loss clinic for almost a year but I had to get extra surgical clearances due to asthma, the discovery of sleep apnea and a congenital heart condition. I have highmark blue shield and they do cover the procedure but my out of pocket costs are close to $2000. After I received the last of my surgical clearances the weight loss clinic submitted my surgery approval the next day. It was just inside of 2 weeks when I got the approval, so there was no issue with having to fight to have it covered. If you are wondering if your insurance covers the procedure the best thing to do is to talk to the weight loss clinic you eventually want to have your procedure through, they should have an insurance coordinator that can help you figure that out. Each insurance carrier and plan is different so you will have to have your specific plan checked. You can probably expect the whole process to take at least 6 months. Sometimes it is quicker sometimes, like in my case it takes longer.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
