DSLife 2 Posted August 26, 2017 My Husband is 3 days post surgery. He's not sleeping well and he's flashing hot then cold. How many have experienced this and how long did it last? Any suggestions? My heart is breaking for him.
Strivingforbetter 247 Posted August 26, 2017 (edited) I felt chilled the first day home from the hospital and snuggled in a blanket, but then that feeling went away the next day. If he continues to experience these flashes and seems unwell, I would call his doctor's office. They would know better if this is typical. James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 26, 2017 Chills and hot flashes are generally associated with an infection.
CJ Sunshine 241 Posted August 26, 2017 I would definitely call his doctor...that does sound potentially like infection.
msb-001 51 Posted August 26, 2017 I got a bad case of chills and related shaking in the hospital on the second day. I think it was a combination of lack of sleep, stress, anesthesia side effects, and stress. I experienced twice more in the subsequent days, but less and less. The Docs checked me for infection and there was none. I do agree, this is something you should contact your doctor for so they can check it out. But just to say, I had some rough cold chills and trembles during those first few days and now it appears to have receded. Good luck! 2 HopeFaith and DSLife reacted to this
DSLife 2 Posted August 27, 2017 He doesn't have an infection! Its not all day and it is subsiding. I was just wonder how many have experienced this and how I could make him more comfortable. I figured it out. 2 Strivingforbetter and HopeFaith reacted to this
HopeFaith 15 Posted August 31, 2017 I had hot flashes in the hospital after surgery. The nurses placed ice packs on my chest/tummy area. I kept the hospital room at 67 degrees (lowest the nurse said it would go) - I was in the hospital for two nights. When I got home I was cold/hot/cold/hot; I took my temperature and blood pressure constantly and emailed the doctor's nurse with my results. No worries for me; surgery was 06/28/2017 and now all I have is cold spells from weight loss. I never received a reason for the hot/cold after surgery other than the 'pain meds' were causing me to run hot.
