CJ Sunshine 241 Posted August 26, 2017 So one of the concerns my surgeon expressed was the importance of getting up and walking after the surgery. I have severe knee arthritis in both knees. So yesterday I had radiofrequency ablation of one knee...it will take one to two weeks to take full effect...it's a kind of nerve block that hopefully will decrease the pain in my knee. Planning to do the other one after I recover from surgery, but hopefully if the worse knee is less painful, I'll be able to walk enough after surgery. Fingers crossed!! XYZXYZXYZ1955 675 Posted August 26, 2017 I have similar issues and will mention that my surgeon said he'd give me shots to take at home to help avoid blood clots. I'm diabetic, so giving myself shots is no big deal, I'm doing it twice a day now (but hope to stop!). On the other hand, my knees have been feeling much better lately, and I don't know if it's that the cortisone shots have been more effective this round or that my 28-pound weight loss so far has helped--probably both. Fingers crossed for the future on the knees--for all of us who need the relief.
CJ Sunshine 241 Posted August 26, 2017 I think I'd rather force myself to walk than take shots. I will just try to do short frequent walks.
Strivingforbetter 247 Posted August 31, 2017 I had a total knee replacement two years ago and it was the worst pain. Physical therapy kicked my butt. Now my left knee is going and I shudder to think about going through that surgery again, but I can feel the bone hitting on bone when I pivot or trudge up the stairs. I'm doing everything I can to put it off. Cortisone shots directly into the knee hurt like hell. I can't take NSAIDS now that I've had the DS, so I've just walked with the pain. I guess we're all in the Bad Knee Club.

I'm a week out from the procedure and I would say I have had a 50% reduction in pain...and it may continue to improve for another 2 weeks before the full effect takes place. Cortisone did not work for me. 1 Strivingforbetter reacted to this
