Is this what regret feels like or is just a phase?

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody! I was sleeved August 16th. I haven't been in pain or anything, I am not hungry but I want to chew!!!! I still have one more week until full liquids (pudding, yogurt cream of chicken etc). I think I am kind of regretting the surgery, it's going to be about 7 weeks before I can start regular foods so I'm not sure if I regret the surgery or I feel like this because I've been on a liquid diet for almost a month now and I miss chewing food? Has this happen to anybody here? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel?
Please no negative comments
Thank you very much!

I got some Hunts sugar free Jello and you can kinda chew it. Might be worth trying if you are desperate and Jello is allowed.

It's a phase. I went through it too. I'm almost at 10 weeks post op and I have days where I think to myself "what was I thinking" but then I get on the scale and I see the numbers and how my clothes that use to be tight are now way to big and I remember why I did it and can see the progress I've made. The liquids phase was super rough but you will get through it. I know it feels like you will never have food again (trust me I was right there too) but you will. I remember the first "soft" food I had was a scrambled egg and it was the best one of my whole life LOL and I was never really a fan of scrambled eggs to begin with. It's weird how you begin to really appreciate food once you can start eating it. Keep your head up! I promise it gets better!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
