Sleeve vs. Bypass

Recommended Posts

at no point in this maddening discussion did i ever claim that NO sleeve patients have success. nor did i ever claim that ALL sleeve patients get GERD.
i'm happy for your success.

No but you claimed the only other viable alternative to RNY was mini gastric bypass. If some sleeve patents have success why is it not a viable alternative?

Just quit bickering! This is a forum to support everyone and there decisions. We do not have a right to judge others. Let's just support each other, geesh!

Agreed. I am appalled by Johnnycakes behavior. This is a place to encourage and help others in a polite manner. Arguing and insulting others is childish and has no place here. I'm new and haven't had my surgery yet and none of your posts here are helpful but come off very offensive. I hope you calm down and feel better.

Best wishes!

Dotty Cole

because mini-gastric bypass patients don't need luck on their side like you had.

APPALLED!!! easy life you have lived thus far...

i am absolutely helping RSM, by combating the river of bullsh*t coming from Mhy about the procedures. you might think being helpful and encouraging is repeating things like "omg, best of luck sweetie! you'll do great! thoughts are with youuuuu!!!". and lord knows there's enough of that on this website.

i, however, think being helpful and encouraging is giving members like RSM the TRUTH, supported by verifiable FACTS about the coming surgery he's about to undertake.

two different approaches. that's all. i find your approach useless and annoying. and you find me "appalling". so we're thru here.

You know, if I could I would rip this post off this site, I would in a NY minute. I posted it to only ask about sleeve vs. bypass. It has gotten to unreal proportions as some people seem to vent their angry frustrations onto others. No more please!

I appreciate all of your help and will consult with my surgeon soon to sort it all out.

Good luck RSM. I'm sure you will carefully weigh both sides and make a good choice.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
