Favorite Puréed Foods

Recommended Posts

I am finally FINALLY transitioning into the pureed stage officially and I wanted to get a list of foods/recipes(besides just taking food and putting into a blender) to make for the next 1-2 weeks. Creativity is a plus! And I would definitely love the recipe for the infamous ricotta bake I've seen floating around . Or what's on your must have shopping list during this phase. Thank you!

Ricotta bake is 8oz ricotta mixed with an egg and spices/ salt. Top with 1/2 marinara and 1/2 cup mozzarella. Bake at 425 for 30 min.

My favorite foods on puree are refried Beans mixed with salsa and topped with cheese and sour cream.

I got a smoothie yesterday with frozen bananas, cacao powder, Peanut Butter and soy protein.i could only have about 2 oz. But it tastes like ice cream and I have a lot left over.

Cottage cheese with pineapple. Theres a brand that sells small containers and they have 19g Protein and they're delicious.

I blend up whatever my husband makes for dinner-- chili, lentil Soup.

Mashed potatoes with lots of sour cream and some cheddar. Not so healthy but I can tolerate it.

I had palak paneer with raita last night! No rice or bread of course but it was so nice to have a little Indian food.

I'm a week into purees and I can have some soft foods too. I'm finding it works best to take it slow and still have lots of Soups (Trader Joe's roasted red pepper and Tomato is my favorite) and liquids. But this stage feels so much better. I can have some real foods.

Thanks for sharing the recipe! It sounds delish. I am started phase two tomorrow as well and I am soooo ready to try some yogurt, cottage cheese and soup that isn't broth! I LOVE Indian food and have been worried I won't be able to eat it anymore. Fingers crossed that is not the case. So you did okay with it?

The creator of the ricotta cheese bake is Shelly, and she has an amazing blog at theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com filled with lots of great recipes for pureed stage and after. I've found it to be an absolute godsend. Her Protein ice cream is better than halo top and easy to make, here's a link to her recipes for that: http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2008/08/protein-ice-cream.html

She's also on Pinterest, IG and Twitter. I seriously don't know how I'd be making it through these last 2 weeks on pureed/mechanical soft without her. Give it a try! And seriously, that protein ice cream is to die for....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
