August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Recommended Posts

My surgery was 3 days ago!! It's a life changing decision, let me tell you that!! It's all worth it, though!! I can barely drink Water like I used to.. can't even finish 60 cc in 15 mins

For me, more room temp milk and 1/4 juice 3/4 water go down the best. Same with broth.

I was operated on 8/14. First two days were horrible. Nausea and shoulder tip pain were annoying but faded away. Day three I became teary - no idea why, I think just used to food to comfort me when I'm unwell. Now onto puréed foods.. Lost 16.5 pounds in 13 days. First day back at work and all of a sudden I feel like I have reflux and the nausea is back :( confused and trying to work out what had brought it on...

Hi Crystal. Glad to hear you are feeling good! I'm so jealous you get to start puréed foods today. You only had to wait 7 days after surgery? Totally not fair lol. I guess I shouldn't complain. Starting today I can have yogurt, cream Soups and cottage cheese. Too scared to try any yet this morning but I'll let you know. Lol

Surgery August 7th. Recovery went pretty smooth. I'm more so disappointed that I haven't lost more in three weeks. Didn't lose anything this third week. But I'm thinking maybe it's because I didn't walk twice a day like I was doing prior and I know I'm awful about getting Protein in. Regular Water has been decent. It's kind of making me wish I had done the Mini Gastric Bypass like originally wanted instead of the sleeve. It's frustrating. I was talked out of MGB because so many people were concerned with how young I was and the quality of life going forward. Anyway, I'm just going to try my best. Back to the gym twice a day and focusing on liquids and Proteins. Hopefully that will result in a loss this week.

I am in desperate need of anything resembling real food. I get about 150 g of Protein a day and probably around 100 oz of food. I know some of my hunger is in my head but I would murder newborn puppies for some tuna or scrambled eggs. I can't really find any liquid appropriate foods I enjoy. One week till puree and broth is making me homicidal

Is that what you lost in a week? I think I've only lost about 6 lbs but I haven't pooped so in definitely retaining Water. I think I'm getting in a lot of calories for this stage (~1000) but it's what my body wants.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
