August Sleevers-How are you doing??

Recommended Posts

Has anyone tried drinking alcohol yet ??
I have a special event this weekend where everyone will be drinking. But I’m kinda scared. I heard you can get reallyyyyyy drunk after a sip??? Is this true!!?!!

I have gone out twice and drank a lot. Didn't get drunk faster and tolerated it fine.

Quite often have a glass of wine at night. Or a gin and low cal tonic (less calories than wine). Don’t feel any different except I can only manage one as I’m full.

I haven't had any drinks yet, but have a company Christmas party on December 9th. I will probably have one or two that night. I had a very high tolerance before surgery, so I am expecting to handle it just fine. I normally drink single malt scotch on the rocks, but will just try a few Michelob ultras out instead. Hopefully, I can get a little buzz with that.

My doctor didn't forbid me from alcohol, but he did forbid me from anything carbonated, which he said can apply pressure onto my sleeve and cause stretching or even a tear. So no beer or sparkling wine or mixers like soda or tonic for me.

I have had wine every now and then. I feel the effects much faster than I ever did before, but it still wears off at a normal pace. I don't think I'd ever want to drink if I had to drive later that day, but I can have a glass of wine here and there.

The tricky part is just fitting in that kind of empty calories. It's hard enough to get Protein in with burning 130 calories on something like wine.

I've gone to a couple of events where I drank. The first one I have to say I really got buzzed quickly and was hung over terribly the next day. The last time, wasn't as bad, I didn't get buzzed or sick.

Occasionally I drink these low carb grapefruit soda Water boozy drinks. They’re only 5% alcohol and a whole can (8-10 oz?) got me slightly buzzed but not significantly. However, I’ve always had a naturally high tolerance to alcohol. I just make sure the alcohol fits in my macros. I’m naughty and had my first drink maybe 2 months out but my stomach and I survived.

I was stalled for the past week or so. Not to mention I'm still getting over seasonal allergies (or maybe it was the flu?) in that I'm still coughing but my throat isn't as sore as it was last Tuesday. But when I weighed in today, I'm glad to see some indication that my latest stall might be broken.

I started a new job, which means that until i move up closer to the new job (which has a Pilates studio between work and an apartment complex I'm looking into), fitting working out into my daily schedule is a bit trickier... though not impossible. I am looking into going back to a kickboxing gym I used to go to in Boulder when I get my first pay cheque (which is going to be on black Friday).

How is everybody doing in terms of loose skin? I've been pleased so far that even at a greatly reduced size, my belly isn't sagging. It has some positively amazing stretch marks, but no sag yet.

There's a little bit of loose skin at the top of my arms, nothing hanging, but a slight sort of web of loose skin underneath/between my shoulder and upper arm. And my thighs--which were reasonably firm even when I was pretty big--are like ziploc bags full of jelly. That's a little weird and I hope that firms up some.

I guess it's early, so I have to wait and see.

Considering I haven't lost nearly as much weight as you have, I don't have much in the way of loose skin. :/ How the hell have you lost 86 pounds? I've only lost 37 so far. :(

I lost 26 on the pre-op diet, then 60 since then. I've had a good experience so far. I've had good results, I know.

But there's still so much left to get through. I'm now "only" as fat as I was 10 years ago... when I was also fat... and also needed to lose a bunch of weight. Still a long way to go...

Must be nice to be able to brag about losing weight. I’ve only lost 37 Pounds since 8/23 and no one can see the difference. I️ can’t even tell. I️ hate that I️ got this stupid surgery because I’m never losing the weight.

Surgery weight- 335
Current weight- 298

I was really just trying to talk to other people about what's going on. Even when this goes "well," it's nerve-wracking and weird.

I certainly wasn't trying to brag, let alone make anyone else feel bad.

I was dropping fast at first... it has slowed and I think I'm stuck because I eat the same things almost every day. Really nothing more to "cut out"

presurgery weight was 356.6, surgery weight 344

current weight 281

Have SO MUCH more to go so I joined a fitness center at the hospital where I had my surgery to start some exercise program which I'm not doing well with on my own

hooefully this will help me

Your journey is yours! Own it! Also, my surgeon said that men tend to lose faster than women, so that could contribute as well. We each have our own journeys.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
