Experiencing Panic Over Bypass Surgery

Recommended Posts

08/24/17

Good Afternoon,

I'm having a panic attack over my surgery. I just found out that I have to check in at 6 am in San Francisco which means we have to leave here by 4:40 am. My husband will drive me down but he won't stay with me because he hates hospitals. His first wife diet from heart complications in 2006 and he just can;t be in hospitals for long now. So, I will be alone before my surgery which has got me upset. I will be in the hospital for 3 days with no one to come see me because I am so far away. No one can drive down to see me because all my friends and my brother are working. I'am just feeling lost today and I have no where else I can express my feelings. Thanks for letting me vent.

Hello!

I was in a similar situation for my surgery. I checked in at 6am and was the first surgery of the day. You will do fine. Pre op they keep you busy with questions, consent forms, IV insertion and so on. I was in for 2 nights 3 days and had no visitors. I was far from home too. I was too uncomfortable to worry about entertaining people. It's important for you to get up and walk as much as possible. It helps immensely with the gas pain. You'll be tired and sleep in between walking. Just focus on yourself and you'll do great. It's normal to be nervous. Keep us posted how you do! Good luck!

I think Colleen is right. You won't feel like having people around you for the most part, and they won't keep you any longer than you need to be in, believe me. Kiss your man bye bye, and let the nurses take over from there! You will be in good hands, and you don't have to worry who sees you at your less - than - stellar self. Good luck!

Know that you are stronger than you think. Even if those you love are not with you in person they will be thinking of you and wishing you the best. This will be behind you before you know it. Take advantage of the fact that you can focus on yourself for these few days and you will be feeling better and stronger in your recovery when you return home.

I had my son and husband there, and most the time I wanted to sleep or not socialize. I apologized, I'm sorry, I'm just not chatty...or I'm going to nap...You'll be on pain meds, sleepy, and when you want interaction, get up and walk. Your nurses will be in often, and you may have a roommate. That was more than enough interaction for me! I appreciated them wanting to be there, but I was in no mood to entertain. I cared about one thing...being comfortable/sleeping!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
