SIX MONTHS! Wowza, that must have made you think OH CRAP. Maybe that is why he only said for me to take the Vitamin E cause I was already on the metformin. I am type 2 diabetic and so I am on metformin but not insulin, thankfully. I will be headed that way, as my mother and many of my other family members have. I took Actos once which was from my endocrinologist and it made me SO tired - I am not sure he believed me but I swear it did make me tired and so I quit taking it. My endocrinologist is this amazing and laid back and is all for weight loss surgery but we tried a few things before that for prescription weight loss pills but then I lost but gained it back and honestly I did not like how they made me feel. But my GI doctor makes me nervous and he was the first to mention the weight loss surgery. He makes me nervous cause he will get on to me about my liver levels and maybe that is why my blood pressure is so high when I go see him lol! What can I say?? I really like cheese and I try to pick foods that are not carbs but that means I eat a lot of meat and I am sure that does not help the fatty liver. Good for you for taking charge of your health and one of my dreams is to be off medication as well - so I totally understand.

I have a doctor for just about every issue I have but I havent ever been to a hepatologist.

My surgeon is confident that I will be rid of the fatty liver almost instantaneously and that gives me confidence. I hope its the case for you as well. My blood sugar levels are always in range, but my A1c was borderline; Its now in control with the metformin and he's confident about that as well. As the days go on, I find more reasons that support surgery; Its definitely keeping me going strong on my diet.

Hopefully you wont ever need to go to a hepatologist after surgery!

It has been decades since I've bought clothes in other than a plus-size store (or catalog or online site). I can't even imagine what it will be like. And it seems a million miles away right now--I'm a week post-op, trying to get my Water all in, and totally stressed by some other stuff not related to this. Deep down, I know this is more important than the other things.

Health improvements--diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and especially those aching knees!

I'm just generally looking forward to not having to think about my body size constantly while trying to eye-ball spaces I need to fit in. This includes, plane seats, toilet stalls, amusement ride seats, booths at restaurants, furniture in general.... the list goes on.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
