Vomiting - Sleeve yesterday

Recommended Posts

I'm hoping to get some answers here. I had the sleeve done yesterday and have now vomited about 10 times. It's always dark yellow in color. Is this normal? Should I be contacting my surgeon? i have taken the nausea medicine but I don't usually feel nauseated, it just comes up every few hours then I feel fine again. I'd appreciate any advice anyone has or experience.

I'm no expert (had surgery 12 days ago) but it sounds like you could have a bleed. Contact your surgeon. Good luck xx

I had my surgery done on Monday and I vomited every day. I was dry heaving and everything. Hurt so bad. My doctor eventually prescribed me a steroid nausea pill early yesterday morning, around 6/6:30 am and I felt soooo much better in the afternoon that they let me come home. Ask for a steroid. I also have a little patch behind my ear that helps me as well. The nurse said the patch is similar to a sea sickness patch. I hope you feel better. I dealt with it for 3 days too long

Aren't you in hospital still? I was in for four days after surgery and I never even threw up!! Although I did come very close but it was actually the pain meds making me sick. Could that be a problem? It sounds like you're throwing up stomach bile. Have they given you an anti reflux medication?

Also I think it's normal. People who had the surgery the same day as me were throwing up a lot the first day or two. Hope you feel better soon! Try not to move around too much. I only ever felt the need to be sick when I moved too quickly.

This happened to me as well. Before surgery they put a little round patch behind my left ear. As I was waking up, I remember the nurse taking it off. I vomited for 48 hours. I was given Zofran, Phenegan, Compazine and Activan. Nothing helped. Then it just stopped. Like it never happened. If you keep vomiting go to the ED because you can become dehydrated very quickly. Take care and please check back.

Thank you all so much for the feedback. I ended up going back to the hospital yesterday for them to perform an upper GI test. Everything seemed fine. Oddly enough, I have not been sick since i've had that test but only have had about 1/4 cup of juice so far. I'm taking it very slow.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
