Hi all, I'm wondering if Bone Broth is acceptable for the clear liquid diet. I'm guessing so but don't see anything mentioned on it here. It can be up to 10 grams of Protein per 8 oz serving so I'm thinking it would be a great source.

I can't imagine it isn't okay so thank you. I'll talk with my doc when surgery is scheduled to be sure but wanted to start my list of things to prepare.....

How would one make it at home? What bones do you use?

You can use chicken (you'd need 2-3 carcasses to make a good bone broth), turkey, pork, lamb, beef - whatever bones you can get your hands on. Most grocery stores sell Soup bones in the freezer section. I like to get my beef bones from EarthFare. They're usually in the freezer case by the meat counter. You can also visit an Asian market if you have one nearby. They usually have a great selection of different types of bones and are usually very inexpensive.

I found a bunch of recipes on pinterest. I also thought of freezing it in ice cupe trays so I will have one ounce portions after surgery.

I am old enough to remember when Bone Broth was just called broth! Of course you made it with bones and veggies and herbs, based on what leftovers you had in the fridge and what produce was just past its prime. That being said, My son bought me a pressure cooker for Christmas, and it's amazing for making broth!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
