Weight gain before weigh in prior to surgery

Recommended Posts

Good evening all. I'm scheduled for rny on 9/12. I have my final weigh-in on 9/6 and watch the drop video. I'm in Michigan and wonder if anyone knows someone who surgery date was cancelled due to them gaining a few pounds. Right now with changing my eating and exercise seems like I'm up in a few lbs and scared they are going to cancel my rny. Does anyone know if someone surgery was canceled. Thank you everyone

I actually went in for my pre-op appt with my surgeon today (surgery scheduled for 8/24) and I was up 5.6 lbs from my final weigh in with the nutritionist (7/31)! That's despite having been on a liquid diet for the past 11 days! I have cheated but only with yogurt a couple times and a bite of macaroni salad once. Really, I can't believe it. Anyway, they thought insurance (CIGNA) may not cover due to the gain, but they called and got approval. I was panicking for a minute there! But it's my own fault, really. I shot myself in the foot because I went on vacation the first week of Aug. and ate everything I wanted because I thought my final weigh in was over! I gained about 7 lbs between that week and when I had to start my liquid diet. Just thankful that I'm still able to have surgery. I hope it works out for you!

Thank you for responding. I've lost when I went in july to get my surgery date then was 9/6 is final weigh-in and I start my liquid diet on 9/5 so I'm hoping i continue to come down but I know I'm definitely going to lose once on the liquid diet. This is such a long process and very nervous for them to cancel my scheduled surgery. And again thank you and good luck with everything

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
