I'm wondering if anyone else is having "new" experiences with workplace stress. Pre-op, not much turned my stomach. I'd let a lot roll off my back, the small stuff was never an issue.

Now 2 months post op, and recently back to work a few weeks ago, I'm finding the tiniest things are mountains for me. I've been so focused on myself, healing, adjusting, and now when I come into workplace drama and blatant lies, I'm utterly overwhelmed. Sick to my stomach, unable to eat, no energy of course, lack of concentration, and completely consumed! This is Not the old me, and I'm lost.

Is this part of all the chemical adjustments? Is this because I'm still healing and my body is using it's focus elsewhere? This has kicked my anxiety back into gear, and knocked me off balance.

I had exactly the same issue - 2 months, out all over the place, totally unable to tolerate the work stress and totally overwhelmed. I wrote a post about it [emoji23]
I ended up quitting kinda suddenly. Part of me wished I had hung on til I was in a better place emotionally. I hated the place and the quitting was not totally out of the blue but the emotional upheaval brought on by the sleeve definitely contributed to everything being totally overwhelming.
Hold on, if you can - it does get easier. Take a mental health day off for your sanity and to recharge so you are better equipped to cope. I wish I had done that when I needed to!
Good luck!

Well I really appreciate that response @NightPilgrim. And I'll look up your post, thanks!

I'm actually getting a mini vacay in two weeks, should be perfect timing. I, too, have been pondering the end of this workplace relationship, but don't want to do it in haste.

Thanks!

I don't know if this helps but I kind of anticipated the same problems and started being more mindful at work, meditating, trying tai chi and exercising more. I usually go for a 15 minute walk or pull up a YouTube meditation video on my break, I find it really helps deal with the day. It sure beats the heck out what was my previous routine , a large coffee and McDouble. Didnt help that there is a McDonalds 50 feet from my office :)

For the first time in a very long time I am paying attention to my own needs and my own stress responses. It feels like I'm more sensitive to it than before. For years, I just buried it and keep pushing through. I'm working to find a balance....I can't bury / ignore the stress like I used to b/c I know that was a big contributing factor to my weight gain.

I'm glad to hear that others are having similar experiences. Hope your situation improves.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
