Well, here it goes. My surgery is tomorrow. I am doing the RYGB. I am going to be honest with you, I have wondered several times and I doing the right thing? But I keep coming back to why I started this journey in the first place. I hope/think it is normal to wonder why can't I do this on my own? What will my friends and family really think? Risk vs benefits of surgery? I am hoping a year from now (or for that matter even a couple of months) I will look back at this post and think this is the best thing I have ever done. I currently weigh 279. My biggest weight was 295, but consult weight was around 292.

Even though I have went back and forth on what to do, I am glad at this point I have kept my surgery date. Even though I am anxious, I feel this is the right thing to do. I pray almost daily about this and hope that everything will go well.

I had gone through all the prep work 18 months ago, lost the weight for pre-op, jumped through all the hurdles of classes, and dieting and psychological exams....got all the way to getting a surgery date. Then I let my doubts get the best of me and I called it off. I regret that decision. I regret that decision daily, but now I'm back in the program working my way through everything again. This time I have no regrets. Hang in there, doubts are normal, being scared is normal, this is a big life changing decision. But you've got this! You won't regret it later.

Thanks for the encouragement! I keep coming back to what you mentioned as well. I keep thinking if I cancel , then I will still be in the same boat, and likely going through everything again to reschedule. I hope you're able to work you way through the program again, and before you know it surgery will be here.

My surgery is tomorrow too. Good luck to you! It is normal to be nervous but we will come out on the other side healthier and happy we made this decision. Prayers to you tomorrow.

Surgery went good. In hospital now and hopefully will be released tomorrow. Had some nausea, and heartburn, but taking meds for that. Couldn't use restroom last night probably because on Anastasia. Had to have in and out cathx2. But able to go today. Feeling better today then yesterday

I too have bounced this ball of doubt around. I decided in May that enough was enough. I'm a basket case a lot of the time but I finally decided that I'm doing this for my health and why shouldn't I? When I ask that question the fact that I want to be around a long time to come, see my kids grow and experience life without this weight keeping me down I see hands down it's a good decision. To hell with anyone who judges me otherwise.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
