Pregnancy & the band?

Recommended Posts

Umm...silly question... but who here has gotten pregnant with the band, and what have you had to do? Does being pregnant necessitate removal of the band..or ?

I'm not pregnant, but am interested to know what happens a few years down the track!

No you don't have to have it removed. You may need an unfill, but I sailed through my pregnancy just beautifully without needing unfilled. I gained 12 lbs through it and my son weighed 1/2 of that and I have since lost the other 6 lbs and just got my first fill in almost a year. Right back on track, no big deal.

That is the main reason I chose the band of other wls. Because you can get pregnant and have a good pregnacy and then go back to banded life. Look at Carnie Wilson(gastric bypass), she lost all that weight then got pregnant and gain some back, and is now having to work really really hard to get the weight back off. I made sure before I chose my band to get the pros and cons on it so as to make the best decision.

I had a band baby April 2006 and it was great, I only gained 23 pounds which 2 weeks later I lost 26. I had to have a partial unfill be I wanted to be able to eat but not to much. I was very lucky that I really didnt have morning sickness so I didnt have to worry about the vomiting. My baby is now 1 1/2 and I am down to 174. (During pregnancy I went from 204 to 227)

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
