losingjusme 12 Posted October 14, 2007 Hi everyone, OK, this is our first week in the Couch to 5K program. This is designed to be a 9 week program, but you can repeat weeks (as I will be doing) until you are comfortable moving on. However, you are not supposed to skip weeks. More information can be found here: Cool Running :: The Couch-to-5K Running Plan Attached is the first week in detail Anyone is free to join, no matter where we are!! This is the place to check in and support with each other and see how it is going. What week are you doing? How is it going for you? Is it too difficult / too easy? Any comments?? Good luck everyone! :whoo:
KarenG. 0 Posted October 14, 2007 I just posted this on the other thread but I just finished my first week one. The podcast is great but the music makes me feel a little giggly. I thought I wouldnt make it but I did!
trystelle 3 Posted October 14, 2007 Anyone else have a sore butt. Had to skip yoga this am, but went on a leisurely hike instead. Not sure if I will C to 5k again tomorrow or Tuesday. Have to see how an afternoon appointment plays out. It sucks that it is getting dark so early!!!:Banane10:
Ariel 1 Posted October 14, 2007 No sore butt, but sore legs. I just bought a new pair of running shoes New balance 1061. They seem really comfortable so hopefully they will help. I want to prevent as many injuries as possible so I made an investment in a good pair of shoes. How is it going with everyone else?
trystelle 3 Posted October 15, 2007 Anyone have suggestions or recommendations for running shoes. I have a pair of Nikes but the are getting old. I have looked at some, but cringe at the price. Guess it is worth it though if they prevent an injury!:hurt
Ariel 1 Posted October 15, 2007 Running shoes are expensive!! I was able to get my shoes for $80 by going to the factory outlet store, instead of the normal $120. If you have an outlet near you, it may be worth the drive.
KarenG. 0 Posted October 15, 2007 These are the BEST shoes but very $$. Runner's Express - Featured Shoe
babygrl1234 6 Posted October 15, 2007 The best place to go for running shoes is a local running store. They will fit you properly based on your foot size and shape and how you walk. I got my shoes for about $80. They are reasonably priced compared to going to a big chain store and they are much more knowlegable and have a much better selection. Good shoes are key to good running. It is amazing the difference you feel when you change into better shoes.
losingjusme 12 Posted October 15, 2007 good morning!! well i did it. i went for my first run of week 1. i didnt think that podcast was ever going to end!! i slowed it down like Jachut suggested and averaged about 4.1 MPH on the run and 3.3-3.6 on the walking. i'm kinda sore but i didnt work out much this weekend. i am going to have to stretch better before Wednesday's run. Karen G - i agree about the music on the podcast, there's just something about it ... Trystelle - my butt is a little sore, almost where my left leg meets the bottom of my butt. everywhere i've read suggests to rest a day inbetween runs. Ariel - i just bought new shoes - New Balance 1226?? but i'm too chicken to break them in while running (???????) babygrl - good idea about going to a running store. maybe i will look into one and return my NB's?? great job everyone! keep it up! jmarruda 22 Posted October 15, 2007 hey guys, are you doing this outside or on treadmills?
losingjusme 12 Posted October 15, 2007 i'm doing it on a treadmill ... a tad easier on my old knees. remember - if you get injurned or think you may have strained something, ICE it... great job, guys! attached is my first day pic (of treadmill). 1.71 miles in just over 30 mins... any experienced runners (ahem, Jacqui) have opinions?? :biggrin1:
Daisalana 33 Posted October 15, 2007 Ok I need help with my iPod!! I'll be honest, I don't know much about iTunes, as I hate apples and everything that go with it LOL. I got the iPod for x-mas the year they came out, and it sits in my desk most the time. Anyway, I downloaded week 1 and 2, I imported them to iTunes, then I made a playlist 'workout', but 1 & 2 in it. Then inserted my iPod, said manually sync.. told it to sync with 'workout'. So it did, said it copied 2 things. So I eject it, look at it.. and 'workout' the folder is on my iPod, but the 2 weeks aren't on there. So there's nothing on the iPod, just an empty folder???? I tried doing it again, it said it copied both songs.. but again, it's not on iPod. What am I doing wrong?
losingjusme 12 Posted October 15, 2007 Laura, i just asked my DH - he's pretty good w/ iPod stuff
Daisalana 33 Posted October 15, 2007 My husband is a computer geek, but he doesn't know anything about iPods either. I was hoping to do this on the treadmill today at work, but I guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow so he can look at it tonight
losingjusme 12 Posted October 15, 2007 well you dont HAVE to have that podcast. if your treadmill is at home just enlist the help of your DH maybe ... have him time the 5 mins then 60/90 second intervals til you reach 20 mins (that is 8 sets of running/walking) then the 5 mins cooldown. or if you are at a gym, you can just watch the clock on the treadmill. good luck!
