KKLive 11 Posted August 19, 2017 (edited) It's been 7 weeks since surgery and I still cant eat lots of stuff. Like chicken and hamburger. I can eat cheese, yogurts and Protein Shakes. If I try to eat any kind of solids like chicken or meats , I get that hurting feeling at the top of my stomach below the chest!! I knew this was going to be hard , but it hurts to eat . rte837 141 Posted August 20, 2017 You're eating too much, too fast or not chewing well enough. And just 7 weeks out, I'm surprised you're eating hamburger. You're pouch has to get used to things again. Introduce the items slowly. One day they might be fine and another day, cause nothing but distress. CHEW, CHEW, CHEW. And maybe start with something less hard to digest. Let the pain guide you. Good luck; looks like you're making good progress! 1 KKLive reacted to this
Pakko 76 Posted August 20, 2017 Well everyone has different nutricional plan but in my experience i get that kind of sensation when i eat fast, too much or the food has a lot of fat example i can eat chicken really good but if i fry a lil bit that chicke or add a lil bit of pam my stomach reacts, i have the "pain sensation" and i cant eat much. Doesnt happen when i get fat free or steamed mealsSent from my SM-N920C using BariatricPal mobile app 1 KKLive reacted to this
pwrtp 41 Posted August 20, 2017 I am 6 months out and I have the same problem and it is self inflicted. I still have bad habits of eating too much and/or too fast. I am glad it hurts so it reminds me to make better choices 1 KKLive reacted to this

Pakko 76 Posted August 20, 2017 Maybe eating to fast, my dr said u have to chew 30 to 40 times each bite, so i had de bad habit of eating and watching tv or reading, so i was distracted and as u can guess i ate a lot and didnt even realize after surgery i did that once and i swore never again, i had the most painfull cramp i ever had. So now if im going to eat i go to my table and eat calmly and chew chew chew, 30 to 40 times and im feeling a lot better, not to mention mr. Devil cramp has never returnedSent from my SM-N920C using BariatricPal mobile app
James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 20, 2017 Solid foods such as chicken and steak can be difficult to eat. There is no need to rush things. For chicken it must be very soft. For example, take a chicken breast and boil it in Water with a couple bouillion cubes on low heat for several hours. When the chicken falls easily apart with a fork then it is done. I have found softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier and had more flavor so that is what I primarily stayed with. I have attached some recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf 1 KKLive reacted to this

The three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight. Weight loss is achieved after surgery through meal volume control. You begin at 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal and gradually over the next year and a half increase the volume to 1 cup per meal. With this minuscule amount of food, it is next to impossible to meet your protein daily requirements by food alone, so therefore you need to rely on supplements such as Protein Shakes. James, I know all this. You don't seem to understand what I'm saying and feeling you're not helping.
hmills653 365 Posted August 20, 2017 I'm almost 3 months and still get that. It is getting better though. I think you have to take a little, whatever is tolerable I'd say and you'll start to get used to it the more you eat it . Also, I know get full alot quicker from chicken than yogurt. Therefore I try to go slower when eating meat and anticipate that I'll need to stop eating alot sooner than with other foods. I also have that pain with drinking after eating sometimes even a good 2 hrs after I eat. I have to be careful with that first drink after eating to see how it will feel. 2 KKLive and harpediem reacted to this
