ILOVETEXAS210 12 Posted August 19, 2017 I feel so silly for even posting this concern, but one of the main things holding me back from having weight loss surgery is the constant vomiting of mucus I keep hearing about ☹️. One person I know had the bypass 13 YEARS ago, and till this day, sometimes throws up after meals. One day she can tolerate a certain food and the next time she eats it, she can't. Another person had surgery 2 years ago and still vomits. I mean, is this the norm?
GassyGurl 428 Posted August 19, 2017 No! I am on day 8 and haven't even come close to vomiting. I'm sure if I overeat, I might, but I am sticking to my plan. Sent from my XT1254 using BariatricPal mobile app 1 ILOVETEXAS210 reacted to this
ILOVETEXAS210 12 Posted August 19, 2017 That's great! I feel at this point it's almost medically necessary for me to have it but if vomiting regularly is the trade off, I don't know if it would be worth it ☹️
PrayingForWeightLoss 337 Posted August 20, 2017 Not a silly question at all. I had the sleeve done on July 28. I vomited once day 1 post op. Haven't vomited at all since then and I don't take anything for nausea. This has been my personal experience. Sometimes there is a medical history context to those who have the vomiting issues. It is not normal to continuously vomit years after the surgery. 2 ILOVETEXAS210 and Buklova reacted to this
gwbicster 257 Posted August 20, 2017 I have vomited a few times when I mess up. It's real easy to mess up, as my new stomach is so sensitive that sometimes an extra half ounce of food is enough to do the trick. I need to eat SLOW and listen to my body- it always "tells" me. I don't want to jinx myself but it's been about 3 weeks since the last time I've "messed up". Hopefully the more I go on, the better I will get at avoiding this. The other thing is, it's not really what I would call vomiting, I'd call it more "spitting up". It's not nearly as violent as it was pre-surgery. First your body produces lots of mucus to "get you ready" for what's about to happen. And then when it's time, it feels like whatever is overflowing the pouch comes up and almost "drops out" of the esophogus. No heaving and I don't think my stomach ever completely empties. 2 ILOVETEXAS210 and Julie norton reacted to this

And it slides out easily and I feel much better. Please don't worry about the stranger issues that sometimes come.... (both ends can react). The trade off of shedding lots of weight and KEEPING the pounds off really made the it well worth it. I have had mucous come up when I ate to fast when starting solid food. 1 ILOVETEXAS210 reacted to this

Perhaps they need an antacid or two. 1 ILOVETEXAS210 reacted to this
Apple1 2,572 Posted August 23, 2017 I was nauseous the first day after surgery and I had one other time when I drank a Protein Shake too fast and felt the same. I have never actually vomited even once. I think everyone is different in how their bodies react to the surgery. I asked for and was given medication because I knew anesthesia usually makes me sick. It helps to weigh out your portions once you are on soft foods and solids so you don't over eat. If you eat too fast it can make it really hard to feel the signals from your stomach before it is too late. I think we all mess up a time or two while we are learning, but it really isn't that bad. 1 ILOVETEXAS210 reacted to this
