Neens 60 Posted August 19, 2017 Hi! I'm 5 days post-op and I'm on a clear liquid diet for 5 more days when i have my 1st week appointment with my doctor. The first few days i didn't feel the need of eating food but yesterday everything changed, i try to stay away when my family is eating because i can't stand watching them. I know this will pass and i only have one more week until i can have pureed foods but it's getting harder and harder. Of course I will not eat anything, I don't want to do anything that will hurt me. Also so far I've only been taking Water with no sugar flavorings which I'm allowed, but i hated the taste of broth and I can only take like a tiny cup of it and Jello has helped a bit but it's not the same. I don't even crave junk food, I'd eat a scoop of cream cheese if I could. I don't know if this makes sense I just needed to get it out of my system because my family doesn't understand. Also all my friends and family that came over to visit me after surgery ended up staying for dinner and I just walked away while everyone else was eating, makes me feel so bad. James Marusek 5,244 Posted August 19, 2017 Before I had surgery, I would just gobble down my food and I was done and left the table. But after surgery, there was so little food, that I began to realize that dinner had two components: food and conversation. So after surgery, I concentrated on the conversation element. Many people experience hunger after surgery. Many call this head hunger. It should improve once you begin the solid food stage. Chewing is a natural part of digesting food. Chewing releases chemicals in your body to break down foods. Therefore after surgery many people miss the act of chewing. 2 Neens and FluffyChix reacted to this
