Mudruns and Crossfit

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

My wife is three months post surgery and she's doing phenomenal. I've just scheduled my initial consult with the surgeon, so I'm very early in the process here. I did have some questions/concerns that I'd love some input on.

I currently enjoy obstacle races such as Spartan and Tough Mudder. I also do Crossfit 3-4x per week. Post surgery, will I be able to fuel and hydrate myself to handle a 16-mile race on a mountain? I worry with the smaller stomach size, I won't be able to take in enough calories to function, or enough Water to keep hydrated.

Anyone have experience with this?

Thanks!

Ray

Several people on this board are endurance athletes...triathlons, marathons, etc. the short answer is yes...it may be a lot of trial and error to figure out what works. You can race and have WLS.

I'm only 8 weeks out so I'm still learning my new system. I can drink normally. I am just starting back to running...I plan to carry several small Snacks and see what works. Pre-op I didn't need to eat unless my run is longer than 3 hours. I'm going much shorter distances right now. Good luck

Yup! I'm four years out. Have done two full marathons, countless halls and tri's... a bunch of Ragnar relays and a couple of Spartans! You can totally do it! I can gulp plenty of Water and fuel appropriately. Not a problem!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
