Add it to a carrier oil - jojoba, coconut, etc and massage into scalp - leave on at least 30 minutes. Full strength is too irritating.

I am only 2 weeks post op and trying to think of ways to get more Protein. I'm still on liquids. I am using the bariatric pal chicken broth which has 15 grams, and just ordered Protein2o Water which also has 15 grams. I'm using Premier Portein drink which has 30 grams, but only allowed 6 ounces per day, so I get a little over 15 grams for that. That's only a total of 45 grams. Does anyone has a suggestion for other ways I can get more protein? Thank you.

I am a gastric sleeve patient. My profile shows lap-band - I'll have to change that.

I'm just four weeks post-op and haven't had any Hair loss yet. I lost half of it once before because of a medication I was on (Topamax), and it was sooo stressful and scary. My hair was down to my butt and it eventually clogged up my plumbing. The plumber extracted a raccoon-sized wad of it from the basement pipes.

I know this isn't the case for many of you, but my half-head of hair looked fine because I have a lot of hair. It drove me crazy while it was happening, but if it happens again I'll just get it cut to my shoulders and relax.

However, none of that is the reason for my reply. I have dry, frizzy, graying hair now that I tame into a straight and shiny mane with various products, but the one I think might help fine, thinning hair is Sebastian Cellophane. It's a demi-permanent treatment that smoothes and thickens the hair shaft, making your hair look glossy and full--like after dying, but without the color. It comes in various tints as well as clear, which is the one I use. I get it on Amazon. Doing the treatment yourself is a bit of work (probably not so bad if you don't have hair down to your butt), but it really makes my hair look 20 years younger.

I know all too well how stressful it is to lose your hair, but it will grow back.

I am not getting a pixie! I asked my hairdresser if shorter hair can hide it more and she said not really. I have cut my hair from mid back to just below shoulders. I wear bangs and they are thin but I look terrible without them! Kinda damned if you do damned if you don't!!! I would say Hair loss is the biggest negative for me of this surgery. SO FAR. I'm PRE sleeve LOL so I can say that!

How about liquid yogurt...can you have that? It may have too much sugar. I have not checked on that in years. Why only 6 ozs of Protein Drink a day? I am under the impression that will be the mainstay of protein intake when on liquids? Am I wrong? Heck, I use a protein drink NOW to (a) keep me fuller and (b) get my protein in and I'm pre-sleeve. I have life skills class tomorrow, I'm going to ask this. I hope someone else can answer

@Valerie617 What is the reason for only 6oz of Premier Protein? It is low carb, so I am at a loss on that.

I'm not sure why. My doctor's directions were 2 oz for Breakfast, 2 for lunch, and 2 for dinner. When I read what everyone else is doing on the forum, it seems really different. Also different - I did not have to do a pre op diet. My surgery went smoothly, and so far everything is going well with recovery. My surgery was August 22. I really like my surgeon. One thing that helped me make my final decision to have surgery was that when I had an appointment with a different doctor (for something else), she walked into the examining room and I didn't even recognize her - she had lost so much weight and looked great. My doctor did her surgery and she told me he's an amazing surgeon and it was the best decision she ever made to have the surgery.

I'm wondering if it's only because you can have a few ozs at a time? I would ask. Are you in a support group? Maybe check with them too? I have no idea how you would get in the Protein otherwise. That's what I was planning on doing. And the only pre-op that I need to do, is kinda like a colonoscopy, drink this stuff to clear you out and be on Clear Liquids only the day before surgery. I know some people have to do liquids for 2 weeks!

In our group meeting the nutritionist had a baby a couple months earlier and her hair fell out. She says there's nothing you can really do. It will come back in a few months.

Assuming youre a male (from your username and the fact that youre 6'1) but I would recommend talking to your PCP (or dermatologist, or WLS) about finesteride. It makes you loss less hair/lose hair more slowly, ive been taking it for about 3 years (prior to WLS) and have noticed a substantial difference (of course ive been taking it for years). Yes its a real medicine you get from the pharmacist and actually has literature to support it being useful for Hair loss (unlike peppermint oil) And the generic crap (finesteride) is the same as the name brand (propceia) so save your money and ask for the generic its MUCH cheaper.

Peppermint oil isnt going to do anything except smell nice. Naturopathic medicine "could" work when it comes placebo effect stuff (pain management, relaxation, stress) but it wont do anything about your hair. Except maybe make you trick yourself into thinking you have more hair if thats your cup of tea, or make your hair smell nice and pepperminty

Why can you only have a 1/2 of a Premier shake? Is that all you are allowed or is that all you can get down? I am 2 weeks postoperative and I drink 3 a day in small sips. Gives me 90 grams of protein. Add a Trusource water which is another 20 grams and I am at 110 grams. Hoping this will help recent Hair loss but who knows.

I can get the Protein Shake down - it's because that's what my doctor told me I could have the first two weeks. After reading all the forums, I realize that I HAVE to have more protein and hopefully prevent too much Hair loss. I know there will be some. My doctor's appointment is tomorrow so if the diet for the next phase doesn't seem to have enough protein, I will ask him what I can add to get more. I am a little lightheaded when I'm standing and I'm wondering if that's from not eating much.

six months since gastric sleeve and Hair loss is alot. Does anyone have any suggestions to help this. I have started taking gummy vitamins with biotin

Biotin twice a day, it will help hair/nails/skin. My nutritionist tells her clients to take it. I lost some hair in the first couple months but it’s already growing back and is healthier then it was before surgery. It’s only a couple bucks, I buy it at Walmart in Vitamin section. I am 8 months post op, down 111 lbs from 317.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
