Pain Question

Recommended Posts

I was banded on the 11th, im two days post op and doing OOOKK, im in pain around my port which is below my chest (not the best spot) so sitting up is difficult. How long until i can expect some relief from pain. My doctor only has me on tylonol! And-- my 'holes' are held with gule, do you think i can shower? my doc said yes, but be careful, but im afraid they will let go! any suggestions?

I was banded on a Thursday morning and had a really hard time sitting up from a laying down position for about 4 days (pretty severe pain). So your pain is totally normal. After the 4th day I felt a whole lot better and only experienced pain when I would bend or stretch a certain way.

I had the same concerns as you over showering but figured if the doc said it was okay, they are the expert and should know. I had no problems. So go ahead and shower...I'm sure your friends and family will thank you!

Lots of docs use Tylenol for pain post op. Narcotics make a lot of people nauseated and you really don't want to barf right now. It wouldn't be good at all.

I did fine on Tylenol. Keep in mind, there is a difference between "pain" (as in doubling over unable to tolerate it) and discomfort (you can feel it but it's doable).

You can shower. Just don't scrub. My doc told me to just let the soap and Water was over my incisions. So I didn't even rub them, just soaped up a wash cloth and squeezed it over my booboos. Then rinsed.

The pain will decrease with time. I still have pain in my port area, not as bad as a week ago, but it still reminds me that I"m still healing!

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
