Weakness & shortness of breath

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys I'm almost 2 weeks post op, and let me tell you it's been a journey already. I still have a horrible time taking any medication let alone my Vitamins & Protein ? Ha ! Yeah it isn't happening. I'm super weak and I'm starting to feel like I'm bruising like certain spots on my body hurt as well as the shortness of breath, I could be washing dishes and I get winded. I did a CT Scan and thank god no blood clots, but at this point I don't know what to do.

Totally normal. I was on liquids for the first three weeks. The first two weeks I felt like I couldn't effing breathe. I would have the air on in my car because I felt like I was suffocating without the air flow. It went away probably like a week or two ago. Weakness is normal...our bodies have nothing in them so any little thing I did took all my energy. Taking a shower took all my energy from me for the day...Walking sucked all my energy out. My doctor told me for the first month focus on liquids more than Protein so you don't become dehydrated.

Ah okay but you think it'll eventually go away the shortness of breath & everything once I reach the purée stages ?

I also felt weak and short of breath for several weeks. Gosh, I was winded for.. 4, 6 weeks?

Try milk and broth. They may go easier than Protein Shakes.

ladycharizar, it is definitely normal. I was sleeved on 7/26 and I still get winded doing little that didn't bother me before. I was told that it was due to the decrease in calories. I'm also struggling with the shake. I'm currently in the mushie food stage so instead of drinking a shake I'll have a soft boiled egg and some yogurt to get my Protein in.

Oh my goodness, I tried milk the chocolate Fairfield one and immediately my body was like nope no thanks so I'll probably stick to Bone Broth.

I think that's what I'll do too because I'm not getting much protein now, I'll try the eggs and ricotta bake next week !

Ok, so you know chocolate milk is a no go for you, but since it wasn't just plain white.. you still don't know if it was the milk or the added sugar with the chocolate. (It won't surprise me if it's dairy.. lots of people have issues.) But just pointing out that the way to test for tolerance is to break everything down into its individual parts to know which part is the problem.

Bone broth is good too.

I experienced weakness and lightheadedness for a few weeks after surgery. I had blood work done and found out my potassium was low. A week after starting potassium supplements I felt 100% better. Might be worth getting blood work to check.
