abnormal ekg

Recommended Posts

Ok here we go: I have been approved for my lapband by the insurance and dr Krish (Zephyrhills, FL). The problem is this. I just had my wonderful yearly with my PCP and they did an ekg as well as the "stirrups" lol. Anyways, it came up abnormal. My PCP wants me to have a 5 hour test this monday, nuclear stress test. I am now wondering if I will still be able to have my lapband or not.....

Has anyone else been through this? Do you know if the surgeon will deny doing the surgery now? I hate to have come this far, and now have to wait, or worse, not get it at all....:)

What do you guys think?

Kuchiegrl1...

You haven't had the test yet so there is no way to know what the results will be. We have no way of knowing if they will be normal or not so we have no clue what to tell you.

If your doc can't tell you the results of the tests before they are done, you have to admit... we can't either.

I had a nuclear stress test - cuz my heart rate didn't get high enought on the stress test (treadmill) but i take antenoal (sp) which reduces your heart rate.

The test is no biggie - you go in and these put you under a machine

that takes pic of heart (viedo really) then you come back - they shoot you up with meds that make your heart race while hooked up to ekg - then you go back to the machine that viedo tapes your heart - it's to make sure you don't have aterey (sp) problems...

Good Luck - they just want to make sure you are healthy enough for surgery.. I had to do every test in the world to get approved for mine - your doc want successfull surgerys on his record - he doesn't want problems... This is a good thing - if you have a problem it can be fixed.

kuchiegrl1,

I agree with IndoGirl55 - try to be positive that your pcp might have seen something on your ekg, and you have time to have it checked out before the surgery. It may be nothing, or maybe it will delay your lapband surgery for a bit - but you will be even healthier in the end! Chances are your lapband surgeon may have given you an ekg in your pre-op and saw the same thing anyway.

It's better that your surgeon has ALL the info going into surgery!

Please keep us updated, and GOOD LUCK!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
