woodsmb 0 Posted August 16, 2017 I just heard today that my request for VSG was denied because during the past 5years there was one dip in my BMI below 35. There was a doctor's visit where my weight put me at a BMI of 34. I wrote and submitted a letter of appeal as in all the other years where a weight was recorded my bmi is above 35 and currently my BMI is 42.4. Does anyone have experience with the UHC appeals process and how much time it took and if it succeeded or failed?
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted August 16, 2017 (edited) Do a search on here for UHC denied and you may get some ideas on your appeal. Is this employer insurance? Sometimes employers have corporate advocates that can help. Have PCP submit a letter for the appeal. Do you have comorbidities? And how long ago was the low bmi? 4yrs, 3yrs etc and for how long were you at the low bmi? Maybe it wasn't long, maybe your PCP can pinpoint the time frame. Good luck Edited August 16, 2017 by Sosewsue61
Beijaflor 3 Posted August 18, 2017 Sorry to hear that. I have UHC and they've said nothing about needing to have BMI above 35 for 5 years. Sounds like your employer's requirement.
