Kaiser South San Francisco Dr. Robert Li

Recommended Posts

Hi there,

I have my orientation at Kasier SSF Aug 29th and then am meeting my surgeon Dr. Robert Li 9/1. I took the info class and was referred to the bariatric program last week. This is all moving very quickly (not that I'm complaining) I have an extreme amount of weight to lose. Does anyone have any experience with Dr. Li?

Thank you

The process has been very easy. Went to orientation and then met with my surgeon on the same day. The surgeon gave me a goal weight to meet. 2 weeks later I met with the nurse practitioner and took the nutrition and life style classes. Now I am scheduled to have my psych evaluation next week.... you will get a lot of information at the orientation

It was good thank you! I've done so much research and have read so much that I didn't really learn anything new but it's always good to hear it all again. I'm not too keen on the no carbonation thing (I live for sparking water) but I understand I need to make a ton of changes and there is a reason for everything. I meet the surgeon on Friday and will get my goal weight which I'm guessing will most likely be 10% since I'm so heavy. I need to have him schedule a sleep apnea test as well. I just want to get the ball rolling as I'm sure I have it and will need to be on a machine for 2 months before I get a surgery date. I need to and start eating right and swimming everyday to clear my head and be as healthy as possible before the surgery. So much to do and think about but I'm so ready.

How are you doing/feeling?

I have my psych evaluation today and a little nervous about it but I'm sure it will be fine. My surgeon isn't requiring 10% which I am thankful! I only had to lose 10lbs but every surgeon is different. Right now I am sampling different Vitamins and Protein Shakes to find which ones I like. I wish Kaiser offered a starter package of these things to make sure I am picking the right ones but they don't There are so many choices! Which surgery are you going to choose? I chose the sleeve. As for the carbonation... I am right there with you... I understand the reasoning but I don't like it. I no longer drink carbonated drinks and it has been hard but not as bad as I thought it would be.
Have you scheduled your classes yet? What did you think about Rick the nutritionist?

You will do great! I see my surgeon tomorrow then have lifestyles and nutrition on 9/20. Rick was intense for sure! There were a few people in orientation who were not reading along and he was quick to stop class and point it out... yikes! I get it though, this is a huge thing and everyone should be dotting their I's and crossing their T's.

I want the sleeve for sure, no pouch or dumping for me. Even if I am heavier I feel the sleeve will do just fine.

I like Premier Protein shakes from Costco... give them a try. Sooo good. I haven't even looked at Vitamins yet, will do that this weekend.

I will let you know how much weight I need to lose tomorrow when I get back from the doctors. I don't have an issue with any number he gives me. I want to be in the best shape possible when I get on that table. It's not a race even though I would like it to be done as soon as possible. I just give it to god. It will happen when it's supposed to.

:)

Met Dr. Li and he was pretty great so far. I lost 6 pounds from orientation to today and he gave me my goal weight of 355. So another 14 pounds. Should be there by the time I take my lifestyles and nutrition class on the 20th.

That's awesome!!! I received an email from the surgeon today and he gave me the dates that he is available to do the surgery. I chose 9/28/17. I am so excited!!!
I really need to start focusing on finding the vitamins... Sunday I am going to costco to find the Premier Protein shakes.... what is the best flavor in your opinion and how much Protein is in it?

Right on!!! So excited for you!

I like the chocolate ones and they have 30 grams of Protein. Maybe you should try single ones before you buy the 30 pack?! Just in case you don't like them.

I do like the premier chocolate shakes... have you tried any other flavors? Are you using an app to track your meals?

I got my confirmation for surgery today... in the letter he said I need to be below my goal weight on the day of surgery or else it will be cancelled... that is sooo nerve racking

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
