I was banded yesterday a 7:30 a.m. I am feeling different than I thougt I would. My tummy is making the most strange sounds it has ever made. So much gurggling. It hurts sometimes. Sometimes no pain at all. I have not needed pain meds. Just reg. Tylenol has been o.k.

The thought of having to drink Protein fluids is kinda making me naseaous.

I know some people have mentioned gas-x. Is that for treating external gases that are being released (burping/farting) Or is that to calm all of this gurgling or gasses?

Thanks to everyone who offered support in my hours of need before the surgery.

CONGRATS ! Yes your tummy will be making strange noises from now on lol

are you suppose to have protien shakes ? I was on Clear Liquids only the first week and really the first week , espically the first few days I was not hungry . So I would maybe just try sipping on Water constantly .

Keep yourself hydrated. The gas x is for the pain that you might have from the gas pains due to the surgery . Or the air being expanded in your abdomen. If your feeling any pain in your chest or shoulders you might need some gas x.

Good luck , Feel free to IM me if you need anything

Mindy

I took the gas x a couple times a day in the first week- now I take it once a day in the morning with my other meds just to keep my stomach calm-seems to be working so far

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
