Methodist Bariatric Surgery Office-Dr. Winterstein-Nebraska Medicaid

Recommended Posts

Omaha, Nebraska?

Hello everyone! I am a fellow Omaha Native. I have my PFT's tomorrow and am waiting to hear from Nebraska Medicaid for approval for the laparoscopic Roux en Y with Dr. Winterstein at Methodist Hospital. I have only met with Dr. Winterstein and his NP one time. I know that there have been a lot of changes made in their office, because Dr. Cronk and Dr. Anthone do not practice there anymore. I am wondering if anybody had to deal with the office staff, insurance coordinator, nurse, etc. at the Methodist Bariatric Surgery office in the last couple months? I have received such poor patient care from them. They are extremely rude to me. The director damn near yells at me when I ask questions, and I dread even calling them at this point in time. I have shed multiple tears while on the phone or after hanging up the phone with their staff. It is really upsetting, knowing there are other surgeons in Omaha, who's office staff would not be so god awful. I strictly went to Methodist because my dad had the duodenal switch done with Dr. Anthone in 2009 and received great care. This has been a total nightmare, and I have honestly done a lot of the footwork myself when it comes to insurance requirements. After being reviewed by "committee" about how long did you have to wait for a surgery date? Was the office staff rude to you? I would appreciate any feedback whatsoever that has anything to do with the office staff at Methodist in Omaha, or Dr. Winterstein. I am curious if everything takes this long at other facilities. Also, if anybody has had issues with Nebraska Total Care or Nebraska Medicaid approving or denying their surgeries if all of the qualifications were met. I am eager to hear from all of you!

First off, you by no means should be treated like this. The WL community makes a lot of money from people like you!! Take it from one that had a good surgeon with no bedside manners at all. I was called (along with my hubby) "THE PROBLEM CHILD" You don't want to be dealing with their attitudes. You should have a good repertoire with them. You will be using whomever you choose for your aftercare. Or be like me and FIRE your surgeon and find another Bariatric Center. I'm sorry this is going on. Please check out other Surgeons. Good Luck

Thank you!! If it were not down to the wire, I would definitely tell them to FO! :) It will take even longer if I start over somewhere else, but I most definitely will not be giving them any business after everything is done! I can barely stand it! I feel like I can not be the only one out there that is having such a terrible experience with them! It is so unfair, but I am afraid if I complain to anyone (the surgeon, the administration at the hospital, etc.) that it will make this process even more complicated and would give them another reason to bully me. Grr!! Thank you for the advice and kind words! Nobody should receive this kind of patient care! I am a nurse and can't imagine ever talking to my patients the way they talk to me. It is incredibly unprofessional!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
