Right decision or not

I've been going back and forth on getting the sleeve. I have been heavy my whole life, have had some wins with weight loss but continue to gain it back. Currently 390 and just shy of 6'. Biggest concern is complications from surgery as I'm paying out of pocket since my insurance plan doesn't cover. I have a 3 yr old and 1 yr old and want more energy for them, I'm just scared of complications and dont want to live worse than I already am. Due to work getting to the gym has been tough, work has also made it difficult to eat well as I do several meals out/ group meals. I'm hoping this could be the tool to hold me accountable. Does the reward outweigh the risk. I'm currently on high blood pressure medicine, anxiety and heartburn medicine. I am pre diabetic. I have seen the surgeon, done the phsyche eval and have the bloodwork scheduled.

I am one month post op today. No complications so far. I regretted the surgery a couple times during my recovery process the first couple weeks. But one month post op, I have energy, feeling empowered and down 26 lbs in one month. I'm feeling motivated to get back to the person I used to be and how I used to look. I'm very excited and optimistic for my journey ahead. If you have the funds and the time to take off for work, I say do it for not only yourself, but for your children so they have a parent around for much much longer. <3 good luck

I am at my heaviest I have ever been. For me I just used this tool as a last option. I was also like you loose it only to gain it back. But then I look at my rewards in the end. For you doing things with your kids, getting off medication, and being out of the pre diabetic box. I am also afraid of dying Diabetes is what killed both of my grandparents. My father was just put on insulin a year ago. My surgeon alsl said I am pre diabetic but he said this will help me improve my overall health. I know money is an issue but look at what you get in the end. I have just started a new job and have to take off without pay but I cant do my job if I am not feeling well or my mind is not in my job because of my health.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
