Hi everyone, I'm in the process of applying for a lap band, I have struggled with my weight since I was a young teen and it is now making me depressed. I struggle to go out without covering myself in makeup and clothes that I feel 'ok' in. I'm only 22 and would like any tips or info about your story and how it worked for you. I'm currently starting to change my diet to get ready for the op but i have my deciding appointment on Friday and am very nervous as it's something I have wanted for a while.

I am literally walking a mile in your shoes. I just started this month with my Bariatric doctor. Their is a whole process you have to go through such as weight management (length of time varies with your insurance carrier) psychological testing, sleep apnea testing etc.... before your paperwork can be submitted. I recommend that you do your research, talk to you primary care doctor as I did. My PCH recommended getting the sleeve rather than the lap band. My PCH stated that the sleeve is more reliable and effective than the sleeve. I personally am still thinking about my decision and have up to t he day of my surgery to decide. Reasearch, talk to other people who have the surgery , read about the pros an cons, success and horror stories. Face it head on.

Good luck with your decision!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
